We have good tests here. I think you can just assume that the dominant variant is (or will soon be) delta because it is so transmissible. It quickly become ~90% of cases.
Being vaccinated is not a panacea. Vaccinated people can still infect others and can still become sick and sometimes die.
If the infection rate in the population is reduced very low, then you are safer because the person you are next to is probably not infected.
Here are words/phrases:
expression - to represent (an idea) in words or other medium
expressive - full of expression
opinionated - adhering to one's own opinion too much
exhortative - serving to incite or urge strongly
pedantic - showingly or narrowly learned
preachy - moral exhortation
For some examples of all of these, just read my toots. (including this one) :)

Even if someone is vaccinated, they should continue to wear a mask and socially distance and take all the precautions. The goal is to do everything possible to fight it and get the infection rate way down to almost zero. Then you CAN open up once the infection rate is down and then do lots of testing and if there are outbreaks, then do contact tracing and maybe additional measures only where the outbreaks are.
But you need to get the infection rate near zero first before opening up. That's the way to do it.
Please don't make the same mistake we made here in the US. We were at ~600 deaths per day and the CDC told people to take masks off and gather together. Now we are at 1200+ deaths per day. Very sad.
We have a lot to learn about what goes on in animal minds.
It would be cool if we could genetically enhance say a goat or a dog so they could talk well enough so we could understand them and ask them what they think.
There are many species who have very special mental talents. Squirrels can remember where they've hidden thousands of nuts. Birds can remember long migration routes in just one trip. Lots of stuff like that.
We are better at generalization and language. Although we haven't really figured out what most animals are saying when they talk to each other, so maybe there are talented specialists in that area as well.
My original comment here was just that we should have compassion for those who are not as fortunate as us, and do what we can to help others, even if effects the gene pool, because the gene pool is all a product of natural selection no matter what we do.
I'm sure eventually humans will mess around with their genes, eliminate genetic diseases, make their babies smarter or better looking or whatever. They're reluctant now because the abuses of eugenics are still recent history. But eventually humans will do that -- if we don't hit the singularity before then.
This ape is smarter than I am...
The choices we make influence the environment which influences natural selection, but it is not absolutely determinative.
Natural selection can't be stopped no matter what. We are part of the environment. When we use interventions, like when we feed people who are starving, or take our pets to vet, we are just part of the environment in which evolution takes place. No matter what we do, natural selection will happen. It just happens within the context of the environment that we are a part of and that we and everything else continually effect.
And yes, cloth masks are not 100%, they only help with source control. Everyone should be wearing N100 respirators.
I'm not saying the recent relaxation of mask guidelines caused all of those. I'm saying all all COVID-19 deaths in the US from the beginning of the pandemic were preventable.
If DT (dumbass) would have quarantined people arriving from Europe (which is where our outbreaks directly originated), if he would have had enough N-100 respirators in the National Strategic Stockpile for everyone and tell everyone to wear them, if he would have told people to stay home and go out when absolutely necessary, if he would have accelerated testing instead of blocking testing, if people would have kept enough food on hand to last a couple of months, and everyone would have actually taken this seriously, then yes all of those deaths could have been prevented.
A lot of people were able to prevent themselves from getting the virus by using common sense. If everyone would have done that, then yes all of those deaths would have been prevented.
The strangest video I've seen today (so far)

I assume those guys are opposed to classical liberalism and libertarian ideas in general and that they simply want to try to invoke negative feelings in anyone who expresses support for liberty.
Didn't work. :)
I'm just a geek.
