With #USAID being paused or all out shuttered, please consider increasing your generosity toward #nonprofit organizations that truly do align with your values.
There are good people doing amazing work local to you and around the world.
What if the impact of cutting back on that government spending was an outpouring of cheerful, voluntary, generosity?
This is a story about how management found out about bad actions of an employee and proactively acted with urgency to fire the employee and correct the situation, even before the customer was aware of it. The response has been outage and a lawsuit against the company that did the right thing. Sad.
Would the Biden admin have been very upset had they found out about this happening on their watch?
uspol, Trump, universities, science
I've seen posts bemoaning the attack on #science that #Trump's team has talked about defunding #university #research projects.
I wonder if universities should consider charging tuition, rather than being free and open to everyone, to be able to fund this important work. 🤔
Uspol, media, huffpo
I read a piece on huffpo about the real impact of dictator Trump downsizing government (as one does when one is a dictator). It came down to:
Return to office decisions and feeling terrified of what might happen.
Everyone in non government jobs has also had to work through return to office decisions.
So... Ultimately, according to the article, it's the same working location decision everyone is going through and media-driven fear.
I was expecting more.
@wdlindsy for clarity, in this context does "unprecedented attacks on faith communities" mean cutting off government/tax dollar funding of church adjacent ngos, or does it mean something else?
@redwhitebluedude makes me wonder if dudes are going to just start standing in front of doors to see if it triggers a gathering of grandstanding politicians with their cameras
Certainly #Trump will claim #tariffs work today.
Over the weekend I read shock pieces in both US and Canadian news from the experts warning of the dire impact of tariffs that were about to bring North America to it's knees... overnight skyrocketing fuel costs, hundreds of thousands just in Ontario to become unemployed.
Reports today are that before the Canadian and Mexican tariffs even kicked in (scheduled for tomorrow), both Mexico and Canada have committed significant funds and action to secure the borders?
Anyone else impressed that air traffic controllers have been working from home and may accept the package rather than return to work?
Or maybe we're lacking some application of critical thinking...
@dailypost @realcaseyrollins i can't find a source for this. Is this real?
Donald Trump has offered buyout packages to almost all federal workers who do not want to return to the office, a major move designed to shrink the US government. The employees would have to decide by 6 Feb whether they wanted to be part of a "deferred resignation program" with an 8 months worth severance package

@realcaseyrollins Opposing "immigration" or opposing "illegal immigration"?
There is a difference and I don't know of any politician who opposes all immigration.
@chriscorrigan I've seen a few posts about this but don't know the background. What do people mean by "empathy" that is the problem? Your post is presenting empathy and love as the same thing. Is that what you mean and what someone out there doesn't mean by the two words?
@medigoth Well now you've got me searching for this phrase and concept.
From what I'm seeing here initially, is a focus on the difference between
- empathy (feeling the distressed feelings of someone else) vs
- sympathy (feeling for someone in distress) and
- compassion (actions taken to help someone out of distress).
...with a value statement from bad to good in sources advocating for "the sin of empathy" view. A focus on my own feelings matching your feelings is unhelpful or even bad. Acting to help you out of distress is good. And feeling bad for you is somewhere in the middle - tied to emotions and potentially driving the action.
Am I getting the gist or missing the emphasis due to only looking at this for a few minutes?
@levisan I've actually been wondering the same. Any rooms to book 11 months out from now? 😆😆
#PreEmptive #Pardons phenomenon examined by #Democrats & the mainstream media.
They seem to have come to a concensus on the issue, no question about it.
I'm interested in being just not civil, but excellent in interacting with others of different viewpoints in an online world where we can so viciously defend our echo chambers and be so dismissive of other perspectives.
Because this is less and less possible here, I'm largely offline and am not sure if I'll be returning. It was fun back when civility was a trend on qoto.
