To all Americans, Happy Thanksgiving Day.
To all of us, what a blessed day to give thanks to God, as all days are blessed.

When you consider what an enormous windfall gain it is to be born in America, it is painful to hear some people complain bitterly that someone else got a bigger windfall gain than they did.

The bills seem reasonable :
The first bill would require the State Department to certify once a year that Hong Kong is sufficiently autonomous to retain its special U.S. trading consideration — a status that helps its economy. Under that designation, the city is not subject to the tariffs that have been levied on China. The bill also sets up the potential for sanctions on people responsible for human rights abuse in Hong Kong.
The second measure would bar the sale of munitions such as tear gas and rubber bullets to Hong Kong police.
China reacts with fury after Trump signs bills backing Hong Kong protesters
China reacted with fury Thursday, promising "firm counter measures," after President Trump signed two bills supporting the pro-democracy Hong Kong protesters and threatening Beijing with sanctions over human rights abuses.

@masterofthetiger@theres.life thought of you when Adam Ford shut down Christian daily reporter recently to start disrn. Disrn is nice, but only gets one or two stories per day. Other Drudge alternatives are so intrusively ad heavy or so biased they're painful to use. I think there's an opening here. Are you still pursuing that idea?
More on my experience and thoughts on the web than seemed helpful to put into my #introduction
@SecondJon Don't know if you have seen my post about this, but it's an excellent article and you might enjoy reading.

I entirely agree with this message on #gunrights. HK is a prime example of the need for such rights in civil defense against tyranny.
Evaluating looking for a new dev job.
I work for a company with good pay and good benefits. I want sure I'd survive here for all of 2019 because I was under resourced and had a huge project with an immovable deadline. But I made it. I thought things were going to be good. Then I was contacted by a recruiter for a non profit trader in very committed to. Moving there would be a substantial paycut, which I didn't think I could justify. But I may go back and pursue it. Here's what has me thinking...
Over the last year, I was promoted to manage the dev team (teams really, in house, contractors, and off shore) ; my entire in house team (only 2 devs) quit because of one business person who has now got a personal dev team larger than mine, while my new devs have been here for only 5-6 months. This person's team is not accountable to me, while I'm accountable for the stability of the system, which is not possible in this arrangement. This person is deceptive, manipulative, and secretive but somehow is still in position despite many people going to HR about a hostile work environment sourced from this person.
Because I lost all the experienced devs, I am counted as a full time manager but also a full time dev, business analyst, support admin, QA tester, and deployment manager for a system with 30k users.
Now I am trying to hire a new developer and had the job description approved last month, but 23 days later HR still hasn't moved on this.
My feedback/input/recommendations are routinely ignored.
So I can stay here, or pursue the job at the non profit and support the organization literally saving lives around the world, and figure out the finances. Maybe it's too late for that opportunity, but I'm at least going to put together and keep updating a resume.
Any input from anyone who has been through something similar?
I'm interested in being just not civil, but excellent in interacting with others of different viewpoints in an online world where we can so viciously defend our echo chambers and be so dismissive of other perspectives.
Because this is less and less possible here, I'm largely offline and am not sure if I'll be returning. It was fun back when civility was a trend on qoto.
