One of the opposition leaders in Belarus, Maria Kalesnikava, has been kept in solitary confinement for a year, in complete isolation. The Belarusian service of Radio Liberty writes about this with reference to a source.

Kolesnikova's relatives received their last letter from her on February 15, 2023. The Belarusian authorities do not inform her relatives about her. It is only known that after the verdict in September 2021, Kalesnikava was sent to the Homel women's colony No. 4, where she was immediately placed in a punishment cell.

According to the source, Kolesnikova is in solitary confinement in the PKT - a cell-type room. "According to the law, the maximum period of stay in the FKT is six months. Therefore, she was transferred to a punishment cell for a few days - and from there she was again sent to the PKT," he said.

In the punishment cell, prisoners are not provided with a mattress, pillow, blanket, bed linen or outerwear. According to the interlocutor of the publication, recently released from the Homel women's colony, Kalesnikava was in the punishment cell only in a T-shirt, leggings and a uniform. She had to sleep on bare boards. "The cold and humidity make my joints hurt," she said.

In September 2021, the Minsk Regional Court sentenced Kalesnikava to 11 years in prison, finding her guilty of conspiracy to seize power, calls that threaten national security, and creating an extremist formation. Human rights organizations consider Kolesnikova a political prisoner, and her release was demanded by leading world politicians.

At the end of 2022, Kalesnikava underwent emergency surgery at the Homel Emergency Hospital, where she was sent with a perforated ulcer. Soon after, she was allowed to see her father, which lasted 10 minutes and was supervised by a doctor and prison staff. After that, there was no information about Kolesnikova.

Kalesnikava's health problems continue to this day: "First of all, the operation did not go unnoticed. She lost a lot of weight. She had a few colds. She had high blood pressure, but they refused to give her medicine," the source said.

In his complaints about the denial of access to Kolesnikova, Kolesnikova's lawyer indicated his fears for her health. There was no response to complaints and appeals from law enforcement agencies.

Despite sanctions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine, their collective wealth now stands at $577 billion, a gain of $72 billion in the past year. The richest Russian businessman this year is the former president of Lukoil, Vagit Alekperov, whose fortune, estimated at $20.5 billion last year, jumped to an estimated $28.6 billion. He is ranked by Forbes as the world’s 59th richest person.

Tens of thousands march in Budapest against Orban.

Tens of thousands protested against the government of Viktor Orban in downtown Budapest on Saturday, led by a lawyer formerly close to the administration who recently launched a political movement that aims to challenge the prime minister.

Protesters marched to parliament in the unusually warm spring weather, some of them shouting "we are not scared" and "Orban resign!"

Many wore the red-white-green national colours or carried the national flag, symbols that Orban's party used as their own for the past two decades.

"These are the national colours of Hungary, not the government's," said 24-year-old Lejla, who travelled to Budapest from Sopron, a town on the country's western border.

The march was led by Peter Magyar, 43, who used to be married to Orban's former justice minister Judit Varga and who eventually plans to launch his own party.
Interviewed protesters said Magyar appealed to them because he had been close to the Orban government, and has an inside knowledge of how it works. According to data of recent polls about 13% of voters would likely support his new party and 68% had heard of his intention.

"We had known that there is corruption, but he says it as an insider and confirmed it for us," said Zsuzsanna Szigeti, a 46-year-old healthcare worker wearing a Hungarian flag.
She said she was concerned about the education and the healthcare systems, and worried about corruption. "I trust that there will be a change," she said.

Magyar became widely known in February when he delivered incendiary comments about the inner workings of the government. He accused Antal Rogan, the minister who leads Orban's office, of running a centralised propaganda machine and sharply criticized Viktor Orbán, accusing him of accumulating personal wealth under the slogan of building a sovereign and prosperous Hungary.

He also published a recording of a conversation with his ex-wife where Varga detailed an attempt by a senior aide to Orban's cabinet chief to interfere in a graft case. Prosecutors are now investigating the statements.

The probe comes at a politically sensitive time for Orban ahead of European parliamentary elections in June, and follows a sex abuse scandal that brought down two of his key political allies - the former president and Varga - in February.

Two years ago, Russia attacked the Kramatorsk train station, a place where civilians were waiting on evacuation trains. On April 8, 2022, approximately four thousand people were waiting to leave, a lifeline out of war-torn Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv regions. Kramatorsk was the main hub. According to Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk regional military administration, over 170,000 people had found safety through train evacuation before the attack.

At 10:30 a.m., Russian troops unleashed a barrage of "Tochka-U" missiles loaded with cluster munitions. 🇱🇹🇺🇦 Lithuania delivers additional armored personnel carriers to Ukraine.

Lithuania has delivered a new batch of M577 tracked armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry reported on April 6.

Vilnius has been one of Kyiv's staunchest supporters against Russian aggression. Lithuania's defense contributions to Ukraine are one of the highest in the world in terms of gross domestic product (GDP) shares, according to the Kiel Institute of the World Economy.

The latest shipment of M577 carriers arrived in Ukraine overnight, the ministry said on X.

The ministry didn’t specify the number of delivered vehicles.

Ukraine's Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced on April 5 that Lithuania would purchase 3,000 drones for Kyiv and allocate 15 million euros (around $16 million) to rehabilitation programs for wounded Ukrainian soldiers.

Earlier this year, Lithuania pledged a long-term 200 million euro (roughly $216 million) support package to Ukraine and promised to continue supporting the country.
