Funny how @Gargron was so concerned about popular opinion and "optics" when he delisted us... Now the thread on reddit discussing this is already more popular than any other thread this month and will likely hit an all time high.

Shame about the bad optics...

In 1959, police were called to a segregated library when a Black 9-year-old boy trying to check out books refused to leave, after being told the library was not for Black people.

The boy, Ronald McNair, went on to became an astronaut. The library is also now named after him

Scientists at Cornell University suggest that onshore algae farms grown in regions that get a lot of sun (such as deserts) could produce all the protein needed to feed a population of 10 billion. Would you eat plant-based meats made with algae? As long as it's tasty, I'd happily give it a try!

Exciting that the ability to take advantage of the UK's strong tides to generate reliable green energy is becoming ever closer!

Do your urban streets have enough street trees? Only if your design choices prioritize them! Touring #Vancouver projects with a client who’s the chief planner for another city, he marvelled at the amount of trees & landscaping everywhere in our downtown — this Yaletown street has 4 rows of #trees on just one side of the street! Yard trees, double row of sidewalk street trees, then bike-lane buffer trees. Lot of #density there, so don’t tell me you have to choose between density OR green! #cities

One key message for everyone who cares about a better city is to engage with local leaders and participate in decision-making any way you can, NOT JUST WHEN YOU’RE AGAINST SOMETHING, BUT WHEN YOU’RE FOR SOMETHING. Petitions aren’t influential in my experience, but personal stories can be. #publicengagement #engagement #cityplanning #urbanplanning #cities #cityhall

Got the attention of a lot of #Sondheim fans yesterday. If you love this kind of stuff, check out the podcast Putting It Together, a deep dive into his entire body of work, show by show and song by song.

I’m a frequent guest on the pod, but Kyle is a great host! He deserves to have a few more listeners. Here’s a link: puttingittogether.transistor.f

Come and get your MUSICAL THEATRE… and MORE!

Anyway, #introduction time:

I write #musicals and other things, like small #interactive #games and #music for #immersive #theatre. If you want to check out my #portfolio then look here: ericmatthewrichardson.com

I also post a lot about #leftist stuff, whether it be #socialism, #anarchism, or just #marxism in general, but always squeeze in time for #Sondheim and - weirdly enough - #themeparks.

My favorite discovery about Stephen Sondheim within the last few years was his obsession with video games. He almost quit theatre after the Merrily We Roll Along fiasco to go into game development - which honestly makes a ton of sense given his fondness for puzzles.

He said he owned about “six or seven Macintoshes” back in the late 80’s/early 90’s, and Ronan Farrow has talked about his love of puzzle games like Myst. Love the idea of Stephen fucking Sondheim going deep on early HyperCard games.

James Lapine recently confirmed in an interview for The Dramatist that the opening of Into the Woods was inspired by his gaming habits, with each character being given a series of active quests to pursue on their journey. A cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, etc. He made the musical version of a LucasArts SCUMM game.

It’s stories like this that remind me to keep my interests wide and varied. You never know where inspiration strikes. What hobbies can flow into another.

Seen from the bicycle, it sometimes strikes you as odd that people take 1,500 kilos of steel and plastic with them to the city, relying on 20,000 Watts worth of little fossil fuel explosions to move the whole thing ahead. And then have to look for a place to park it.

📣This afternoon, the Lords will consider whether the police should be given new powers to stop & search protesters, even without suspicion.

👮‍♂️These draconian powers would take us another step closer to becoming a police state.

Doing an interview with the BBC to promote my upcoming musical “Allegiance” in London.
This is my legacy project, the work I am most proud of and am most eager to share with UK audiences. It tells the story of our community, when 120,000 Japanese Americans were put into barbed wire prison camps during WWII because we resembled the people who bombed Pearl Harbor.
Allegiance is a celebration of the human spirit over adversity. #NeverForget

So, we finally got to adding me to the team's page of the company. I kinda like my picture there but I fear it might not fit in well with the others... thoughts?

Good God, I'm watching the England v Iran game and I cannot believe that football has so far to go in terms of player safety.

The Iranian goalkeeper looked unwell, probably concussed, confused, and unsteady on his feet yet was allowed to play on!

The usual complaint is that players get paid too much, but surely there's also a duty of care towards the players. This guy should not have been allowed to play.
