@freemo @icedquinn - I’m sensing some “Trailer Park Boys” and Swearnet vibes here! Gotta try to take things as light as possible. I always say that if you hate the CEO, become the CEO. (How can anyone claim to be the CEO of a decentralized system? I’d ask him if he’d bother responding.) I’m not much impressed with Mastodon. But sadly all current social media options leave much to be desired. I do like the majority of the people I’ve met here though. I’m not leaving… yet anyway.

Isn’t there room for an alternative to Join Mastodon that lists a far far broader range of servers alongside user reviews of them? And snippets of the type of conversations and people who have accounts there?
Why does Join Mastodon have to be all dominant other than they have good SEO.
@gpowerf They arent hte only one, there are other inclusive directories.. it is however the first one new users tend to see as it is the only "official" one

I checked and it seems none of the others list qoto. joinfediverse for example says please nothing from the fediblock list, but we are not on there, so fair game to suggest they list us i guess?
So maybe if joinmastodon insists on being incomplete, getting on the other lists would be better than nothing?

Another possibility would be posting on the subreddit, i see at least one server promotion, so it seems it is allowed. I am a bit unsure if i should make an account and post, since i do not know qoto that well as a relatively new user.
@admitsWrongIfProven It wouldnt be quite as appropriate for me as the server owner to do it. I do encourage you to do it, but only if you feel compelled to.
We have about 20K users so at least 4x over that limit.

It's really apparent that it's causing you a ton of stress, and it's definitely easy to get caught up in all the negative aspects.
I hope you can keep in mind that there is a ton of really great aspects to qoto; namely the sheer number of really cool and intelligent people that are here. Honestly it feels amazing to have a community that breaks down some of the social stigma of talking to people with a higher social prestige, without having it yourself.
Trying to run the server is a lot of work, and it's clear you've put your heart into it; you wouldn't care this much about ensuring qoto is accessible and open to everyone who wants to join (within reason of course). I don't need to tell you that, but I feel it needs to be said just to put it in writing.
There arent pure good and bad people in the world, only people who strive to do what they think is good and those who are apathetic. As painful as it may feel, there is a point of diminishing returns for trying to convince some people. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try, just may need to switch up how you approach it.
In the end, I appreciate what you've done and continue to do and hope these issues can be resolved in a way that allows you to have some peace.
