#Introduction! I'm Sam.

I'm a hobby programmer (mostly Rust these days -- feel free to check out github.com/sts10/). Interested in passwords/passphrases, privacy, Linux, Neovim, etc. Occasionally blog about those things here: sts10.github.io/

Been happily reading a lot of books this year (novels and non-fiction). Let's trade recommendations?!

I'm physically disabled, something that I almost never talk about, but probably should!

I've worked as a social media editor at CNN and BuzzFeed News, though am looking for a new job at the moment...

Been on here since '17 if you have questions!

* Boost (retweet) liberally.
* Follow (and unfollow/block/mute) liberally
* Feel free to be silly! Please! 🍍
* For your own posts, know that getting 5 to 10 "boosts" or likes is A LOT for Mastodon
* Use Content Warnings
* Add text descriptions to any images you post!
* Turn on two-factor authentication
* If you're new, be sure to read and listen a bit, especially about why things are the way they are around here.

Wow, seems like a LOT of people are coming to the . Looks like the gamedev.place is kinda dying of success like .social.

Let's hope the infrastructure gets better soon!

You can listen my new track, 64k right here!

I am still learning, but I am quite confortable with what I have done. There is still some mastering problems (I do not hear some elements in other devices, but well...)

As always, all the music production is done in a system :)

Enjoy!

Hey folks of , how was your first weekend in ?

For me it has been a good week of discoveries, new people, new communities, new content. Thanks for all of this!

Every Mastodon explanation is like "It's very simple, your account is part of a kerflunk, and each kerflunk can talk to each other as part of a bumblurt. At the moment everyone you flurgle can see your bloops but only people IN your kerflunk can quark your nerps. Kinda like email."

Ok, #TwitterMigration folks, I see a lot of people asking, "How do I find people on other servers on #Mastodon or the #fediverse.

Well, here's my #Feditip of how I went from 1 person alone on robot.rodeo to having almost 2,000 interesting people to follow in about 8 months...

3. Follow absolutely anyone who gets boosted into your timeline because they said something that interests you.

4. Go check the bio and profile of people you follow. Follow the author on any interested boost. Click the hashtags in their bio. Follow interesting people there as well.

That's all I've done, and I've found almost 2,000 interesting people since April.

BUT, you can do something I couldn't...

1. Go to joinmastodon.com and look for servers with topics that interest you, or that have a lot of users. Go to those servers home pages and then follow the admin. That admin will likely boost interesting posts on that server, and as you follow people, your social graph will naturally expand into that server.

2. Go to search.twitter.com and run a search for "Mastodon." You'll find lots and lots of people posting links to their Mastodon profile. Follow anyone that interests you.

I am really liking this social network. However, I can understand why it can be difficult to get into. I did find it quite difficult even while I am still tech-savvy and a computer science myself.

I cannot see the regular elon-verse grasp the minimal knowledge about how this social network works. I see a lot of people giving the analogy of "it works just like e-mail, you have servers, etc".

In this era, there are people that think that Gmail(or hotmail) is the only provider of e-mail of the whole world. I already herd "let me gmail this to you".

It shouldn't be a bad thing that mastodon has mastodon.social and that beginners think that instance is the main one. People will at least start using it and learn the true values of Mastodon in the way.

I started a new job as a Numerical Simulations Engineer for Virtual Reality at altheria.com recently, you may say that it's quite badass and a really good opportunity to grow.

It is indeed, but the best part is that they let me contribute in open-source projects 🥰 as my colleagues say "if you take, you also should give".

We are currently contributing in a convex decomposition library that seems to be pretty state-of-the-art, take a look:

HOLA! We are looking for a Mastodon developer, preferably #indieweb aware (but not essential), to help evolve a new fork (already mounted) with a few tweaks for a very big community from the birdsite.

It's a nonprofit project, but it will soon have real resources after launch from several interested people and groups.

It's a very limited, single mission, paid gig (but not a big one… yet). We need to be up and running PDQ.
