@yuvipanda I have that problem with eglot occasionally but only on windows. Have to kill the task 🥵

@radehi Thanks, I use that because some people think ambihelical is some kind of sexual thing....lol. The reference is the semi-famous visual joke about the ambihelical hexnut.

Sure I understand people get wild hairs in strange places. I'm just trying to maximize my ability to connect with people I actually might enjoy have a beer with, and that have relatively tame hairs.

If there's nothing better to be found I will be staying, I don't have any problem with qoto other than being siloed off from part of the fediverse that I *might* want to talk to.

@obi @hartree @lucifargundam @freemo Sure, I know that, it is how I got here. Kind of my point. Why is qoto being blocked by another instance there? It's a little confusing tbh.

picking a mastodon server to join is easy -- just think of it like you're allying with one of many families in a war-torn medieval land, each with their own histories, feuds, laws, blood rituals

The instance I was particularly interested in was democracy.town, I don't want to follow anyone there, but I could see it happening. But I've also noticed vmst.io blocks qoto. It's also not on that automated list, so not sure what that's about. I had to go to its github source to find it out. Neither are huge, but it is concerning that qoto is on any legit instance's block list. vmst.io is an instance listed on joinmastodon.org, and democracy.town was listed on a list of politically oriented instances that I googled, the only center-ish one there as far as I could tell. I was looking for a recommendation for a twitter migrant who tweets political stuff.

I want to be , I'm looking for a fairly well moderated and rarely blocked server. My current server is blocked by too many instances for various reasons. It would be nice if it supported rendering, was STEM or technology oriented and had a decent chance of being around in 10 years. Any ideas?

@obi @johnnylogic I just noticed democracy.town blocks qoto.org, they seem to have a strange idea about this instance:

"False, dangerous medical conspiracy theories, racism, homophobic, transphobia. "

I sent a polite email to the admin requesting it be removed. We'll see what happens.

@ryand3rk I suppose, but I am not sure manchin is really a democrat 🙂

@TNLNYC Some servers allow up to 65535 characters... 🙂

@Zezin Sometimes it is clunky. I use evil-collection selectively, which helps. Still not as smooth as I would like, but it's ok. C-z to get into the right mode is sometimes needed, mainly for obscure modes that I haven't configured the default binding correctly yet. Some modes are just better with their original bindings as well, so knowing some basic emacs navigation keys is necessary.

@Zezin No evil, it was one of the things that eased my transition from vim. And I like that I can still use vim effectively when I'm on a system that lacks emacs, if I used vanilla, I'd eventually forget things.

@Zezin I used since the 80s several variations of vi. Eventually about 7 years ago vims limitations and some YouTube videos on emacs convinced me to try it. My motivation was to be as efficient as possible developing code. My hobby for a few years was customizing emacs until I approached the ideal environment, now it’s more occasional. The time involved makes no sense unless you enjoy the hobby part.
