@mloxton @augieray "Ring around the rosies / Pocket full of posies / Ashes, ashes we all fall down!" We still remember the stupid things we tried for the Black Plague in the middle ages.

I have just been requested to commute three days a week 135 miles away each way from my home (I have not moved) to an office I was never required to attend before the pandemic starting end of September.

@rolle This is the account I use most and it has always been with Qoto.org. I like the admin and their philosophy that adults can do their own blocking or not.

I have a second real-name account on a different server that I use when I want to be more connected to IRL.

Anti-SLAPP win this morning. Dear CA plaintiffs and lawyers: just a reminder, under CA law even if I take a case pro bono you have to pay my fees, at rack rates, if I win an anti-SLAPP.

@iaintshootinmis except that you would want it to show 125% when charged to trip capacity because math.

Hello everyone! 👋 We've joined the fediverse as part of an experiment with our friends from BBC Research & Development. Read more about it here: bbc.co.uk/rd/blog/2023-07-mast

@Popehat Ok, but could you just blog about it also. Podcasts are great, but also time consuming for breaking news. (I also like pull quotes when I post)

I saw someone argue that shitposters can't succeed on Mastodon because their posts won't go viral due to the lack of an algorithm.

As a counterpoint to their belief I would like to introduce exhibit A, whatever the hell this account is.

@profcarroll No response bias in this pole. 😜 For the record I drive a Model 3 and I love the car. Only time I regret it is when I wish I had a truck. I'd have bought the but mu old car was ready to quit and I just could not sit on a 21 month waiting list.

@librarianshipwreck As a practical matter my Alma mater rejects 90% of applicants every year (It is the most selective campus in the CSU system). A regular hot-button issue among alumni is how best to decide which lucky 10% get admitted with SAT scores always a huge can of worms.

Given this, I'd like to hear from people about what they thing appropriate factors are for deciding who gets into highly selective universities.

Ladies and Gentleman I give you the terror of first past the post elections and why anyone who wants real change from the government need to start by implementing fair voting systems.

I'm an NDP voter and a social democrat. But in the next election I will vote Liberal in my riding to stop a Pierre Poilievre government. I know to...

@jon I love that the owner paid for the electricity for the entire shindig and as a result the town is considering installing an EV charging station. Look how much farther EV owners get when they cultivate a reputation for generosity instead of being total jerks.

@scerruti @transportevolved so far, following Tesla's lead, fast charging stations have been unstaffed. Cash transactions require a cashier, or at the very least a technician to clear the vending machine a few times a day. For gas sales this was not an added cost because you already needed an attendant present whenever the pumps were on for safety reasons. I wonder if there is an economical way to put an attendant at an fastcharger without significantly increasing the cost.

@transportevolved I hope that part of the standardization process for NACS is to require that the NACS port be located either on the drivers side rear of passenger side front of the vehicle. Short cords are lighter and more cost effective.

@show I'm in California, but the regulations requiring that fresh meat, cut produce and other prep items be covered in plastic before storage or display seem to be based on a national trade group model.

The restaurant I worked for recently went through an industrial sized role of plastic wrap a week, and I know we were not unique.

With regard to biodegradable plastics, I know they exist and some are even petrochemical free, but as a consumer, it is hard for me to identify that they are being used and at least in 2023 they are a significant increase in expense.

@malwaretech the other thing you cannot do is schedule flights. If you publish time and destination you are an air carrier. To be private you must sell the whole plane at one go.
