@kevinrns You wrote, "Unneeded, Unused, Underground." However plastics are a significant contributor to GHG emissions.

The OECD [writes](oecd.org/environment/plastics/), "Beyond the hazards posed to the marine and terrestrial environment as well as to humans, plastics are also a substantial contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions. In 2019, plastics generated 1.8 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions – 3.4% of global emissions – with 90% of these emissions coming from their production and conversion from fossil fuels."

To phase our Fossil Fuels, we need to think beyond replacing energy generation.

@kevinrns What about the non energy used of petrochemicals, plastics and solvents in particular?

@Teri_Kanefield Corollary to the cardinal rule of power struggles: If you feel powerless find a way to change the situation to give yourself a voice. This is a core tenant of non-violent civil resistance.

@noagendashownoteslinks Exemption #1: The toll may not be charged at any time public transit is closed or out of service. People who commute one way while public transit is unavailable can apply for exemption for the other direction as well.

If it is after BART/Muni is closed for the day, or a line is out of service or station closed for police action then no road toll.

@JaneRLaForge It is not so much that free speech is sacred as it is that censorship is abhorrent and corrosives to democracy. It really is not that I want to take in speech I disagree with, it is that I fear my own speech will be censored next if there is bit a single crack in the wall of freedom.

it is up to a candidate to campaign for votes. that is pretty much the core of democracy.

commanding voters to show fealty regardless of absolutely heinous and terrifying politics is moving in a direction away from democracy and toward fascism

@mike I get the impression that people living just over minimum wage don't have the resources to press the issue.

@alexeft@mastodon.online @josemurilo No the is a Tesla M3 that I use to get to work. I got it so I didn't end up driving a full-sized pickup to work every day

@alexeft@mastodon.online @josemurilo Hay and chicken feed doesn't fit in the back of a compact car.

@unabogie @w7voa I'd vote for him, but apparently it is not viable to vote third party in the us.

@mike No problem with "Happy Holidays" in the right situation. I only get bothered by it when people think it is the only appropriate greeting.

For example, at Target I brought my cart full of Christmas decoration including some overtly Christian ones to the register where a member of my church was the checker. I wished them a Merry Christmas and they told me "We're not allow to say that here. I could get fired."

When people get so offended at "Merry Christmas" that they cannot even stand that greeting being exchanged between two people who are known to celebrate Christmas, then I get offended.

@josemurilo You are letting the perfect become the enemy of the good. There is nothing that is preventing more investment in walk-ability and public transit while also de-carbonizing our personal transportation.

Honestly if there was sustainable way to have public transit get me the 20 miles from my house out a dirt road to my job in a light industrial area several miles out of town I would be all for it. But there are a lot of people outside of the sick and overcrouded cities who are unlikely to be served by public transportation this generation. My keeps the big diesel pickup in my back yard from being my daily driver.

Woman: Women should be allowed to show their breasts in public if they're breast feeding.

Me: I agree, I am a big supporter of women being able to show their breasts in any situation, regardless of if another person is sucking on them or not.

Woman: ::stares at me:: What?

Me: You heard me.

@realcaseyrollins And people ask "why are there so many homeless young people?"

A hypothetical: Pres. needs a minor medical procedure between now and election day. He should:

Disproportionate force "with the intention of achieving a sustained deterrent impact": a war crime. IDF: 1 in 3 of those killed: Hamas. >6,500 are children💔.

WSJ: “Mon a snr Israeli official said at least 5,000 militants have been killed.”

Total of 16,000 Gazans killed so far, 1/3 men. So Israel continues to claim every adult male killed in Gaza is a Hamas soldier? Again with no follow-up questioning this unbelievable number.

@w7voa "I'm the only one who can save America!" Um, where have I heard that before?

@isagalaev I 100% agree with what seems to be @mitsuhiko 's main point there: that trying to bolt typing onto Python is not a great idea, and has led to *far* less readable Python, overall.

If you want a strongly-typed language, there are plenty to choose from.
#python #haskell

(I too don't want to re-hash all the argument for or against types, and I do know C++, Java and at least enough Haskell to be dangerous)
