@johnzajac I think it depends on what you've seen before. At the debate he reminded me of both my grandpa and my father-in-law the year before they were clinically diagnosed with dementia. (Alzheimer in one case, louie body in the other) We knew something was up, but the good days mostly convinced us that the bad days were just "getting old."

@CptSuperlative I will ask - as I did in December - what happens if Biden dies or falls so ill that he cannot function as president before the election?

@Hey_Beth @noondlyt So if Biden cannot make it to November, who would you want to see, or at least who else should be in the conversation. Does our Governor figure into the conversation? NBC is reporting that there is a Biden family summit at Camp David tomorrow so this may be a real discussion very quickly.

@deviantollam Regarding power cuts on fire suppression: Triggering the fire alarm (or FoH zone) at your favorite mouse based arcade will cut power to all the games and the digital entertainment. And no, most managers do not know how to turn it back on.

@JasonPerseus The solution is very simple. We have a legislative branch empowered to change any law up to and including the US constitution. If it is clear that the kind of laws passed 300 years ago are out of step with the current age the solution is to have the legislature update the law.

It really sucks that Congress has be a dysfunctional mess for the last 20 years, but it really should not be the job of the courts to decide what the legislature should have done. It is particularly inappropriate for the courts to take an issue where congress has repeatedly taken up the issue and repeatedly chosen not to act and make the change through the courts that did not pass in congress.

@bloodravenlib 1) How is this any different from any other keyless entry system? and 2) what kind of idiot ignores at least a dozen warning that the Tesla App / car spit out about not letting the battery run low?

@hittitezombie To which the answer should be, “We we anxious to take immediate action, but were wrong not to involve congress when we did so. This was an administrative overreach, and congress should quickly take action to correct the situation.”

"I'm starting to hate Windows Copilot and all the ways in which it's infiltrating my PC even more. I've been using various forms of "AI" since Microsoft rolled out Bing with ChatGPT back in 2023 & I've yet to find a compelling reason to use any of them."

@nazokiyoubinbou I think it is also important to understand that there are some people, myself included, who cannot wear a respirator appropriately and safely.

Just last week I "failed breathing" again at work. It is illegal for me to work in any environment where a respirator is required. Fortunately, there is very little call for such work in my particular role so my employer can make a reasonable accommodation for me.

When I hear people wanting to make N95s mandatory PPE in more situations - especially public accommodations I worry that it will impact my employment. For example, if N95s are required PPE in healthcare settings, I would become illegal for me to do any work in a healthcare setting because I am cannot get a licensed to wear a respirator even if the task I am performing would not need one otherwise. I work in a heavily regulated industry were we can lose billions of dollars in federally overseen contracts for not strictly observing PPE regulations. "Lets require everyone to wear an N95" is a real threat to my employment.

@luckytran

@hittitezombie The Supreme court is being very consistent in constraining the authority of federal agencies to make interpretations beyond the authority expressly granted them by congress. This will not be the last time that Trump - if elected - will be hoisted by his own petard regarding limitation on the power of executive agencies. Trump would like to rule like a dictator, but no man rules alone. In placing a court that will weaken "the deep state" Trump will also find his own executive authority more limited. Neither he nor his voters are anywhere near intelligent enough to make this connection.

@jay_chi um, which bill would that be? ruling was on an ATF finding that Bump stocks fit the legal definition of machine gun under the 1968 statute. The opinion expressly says Congress may pass a new statute to ban bump stocks if they choose.

@garyackerman Do you really think that's true? My casual survey of some people who graduated from a fairly elite state university yesterday says that probably 3/4 of them where there it get their "professional work permit." They needed the piece of paper to be allowed to work in their chosen field.

Full disclosure: my sample group were mostly engineering majors.

@nazokiyoubinbou @luckytran Additional fun fact, if air goes around your N95 respirator your not wearing an N95 respirator. Remember "When worn right its uncomfortably tight."

(Some background for non-NYers: the general election is between parties, and at least at the city level the democrat generally wins against some wackjob republican by a landslide. So really, if you want a say in the election, you need to vote in the _democratic_ primary. That's only allowed if you're a registered Dem. Doesn't matter how far left you are, how much you identify as independent, how angry you are w/ the Democratic Party, etc; you either register as a Dem or you don't have a voice.)

@ISV_Damocles They are stuck in a flight regime that isn't kind to modern PCB assembly. It can be done, but it requires a good bit of testing and specialized ruggedization techniques. The company I work for has developed boards with surface mount components that will work at over 150c and more than 25g worth of vibration. On the other hand, my lab is full of examples where we didn't get it right. Our industry can accept a certain level of failure - it is expensive, but not deadly. Boeing can't accept a 2% failure rate.

Hey Canadian nerds! I have held the domain registration for regex.ca for a very long time. When I lived in Canada it was my primary domain, but I haven't used it for years. Does anyone on the fediverse have a good use for it?

I'm going to release it but if you've got a good pitch I'll pay for a 1 year renewal and then transfer it to your ownership.

Please boost for visibility kthx!

Apparently the best selling car has and expiration date because many of the hydrogen parts cannot be certified safe. And the repair costs are $100,000. But all we ever hear about are dead batteries in cars.

There’s just nothing more to talk about when it comes to Gaza.

Netanyahu knows we see what he is doing, and he doesn’t give a fuck. Biden keeps talking big, but he folds every time because he knows if they arrest Netanyahu, they are coming for him next.

The news is broadcasting horror every day and telling us if we don’t support it, we hate Jews.

What’s happening in Gaza is an apocalyptic event visited upon them by a lunatic enabled by the most evil nation on earth.

There is simply no other way to view the situation. This atrocity will be remembered for all time, not just because of its cruelty, but how many people tried to defend it.

The narrative that voting is the primary way we achieve liberation is bullshit because we cannot vote on the shit that really matters, i.e., a livable wage, housing, policing, infrastructure, etc.

I'm not saying don't vote, but this idea that we are going to vote ourselves out of oligarchy is nonsense because we've always been given limited choices.

People who vote should be working with people who don't to make sure all bases are covered instead of slap-boxing about who is the better citizen in a declining empire.

Everyone can contribute to progress whether they vote or not.

Stop listening to white liberals who are afraid to confront the hate coming from their communities trying to make voting the end all be all.

Because it's not.

@thelinuxEXP I really miss the 1990s open source ethos where everyone used a (often bitingly sarcastic) handle that had no connection with IRL identity and if the code was good it got used. I still prefer to use the internet without punting my IRL stuff out there. It's just a better experience.
