@aravosis more precisely, it has been Democrat party presidents with Republican party House of Representatives. It has always taken both.
@SusanPotter for the record I cast my vote-by-mail ballot for Elizabeth Warren only to have her drop out before it was counted. I am doing everything I can to fix my party including reminding people the Joe Biden doesn't want to actually get anything done. Since it is likely the the primaries will be over before my vote is counted advocacy is the best I can do.
@SusanPotter please remember this as you consider who to support in the 2024 democratic primary. We need someone better (and younger) than Biden.
@OldAndCranky So open discussion on twitter is as dangerous as opposition to war and the draft - valid but scary for to those in power?
Please see Schenk v. US which is the origin of the "fire in a crowded theater" phrase. The defendant was convicted of distributing pamphlets opposing the US entry in to WWI and the associated conscription. It was a decision written in fear, and a phrase Justice Holmes spent the second half of his career trying to undo.
request for Christian hymn texts
@artsyhonker I recommend the hymns of John and Charles Wesley. Go look at the original text, not the generally abbreviated versions in contemporary hymnals. There are a lot of great CM and LM verses that do not get much play because who wants to sing 13 verses of a single hymn.
The Psalms of David in Meter(1650) is another great public domain source of metric Christian verse ripe for new setings.
@Soniop Heard of and personally experienced. I had to tell my Age-of-Sail themed roll playing group that I could not come to last month's game because I had caught the Kraken.
@ricardoharvin Do you think that attackers are ignorant of the morality of their actions and all that is needed is for someone to "show them the light?" Those who would commit such acts will not heed your proposed training. Further, a growing number of studies are showing that this mandatory training courses have a strong tenancy to leave those who attend them with less respect for the protected group.
@Robminchin Interesting factoid: the railroads had such difficulty with this, that FRA regulations prohibit any train order or schedule from including "12:00." A train warrant (a dispatcher's order giving a train the right to operate over some section of track) that would otherwise include 12:00 noon will instead be issued for 12:01pm
@Turq @sergio_101 @telorand @Robminchin
But why should the day be the SI unit of time. Why not the second (as of course it already is)? We could have kiloseconds and Megaseconds and best of all we could final post speed limits in the actual SI unit of m/s instead of km/h which is a silly unit only used because it was a closer analogy to the imperial miles per hour.
At the very least we could get 10 day weeks. But how many days off and in what order would we make a weekend? 7 days of work followed by 3 off?
Starting January 1, California now requires that companies with more than 15 employees disclose the pay range for their positions both to job applicants and to current employees. I attended a mandatory training for managers about how to respond. I'm wondering if anyone has put out guidance for employees about how to use this newly available data?
And nobody seems to like him
they can tell what he want to do
and he never shows his feelings
But the Fool on the Hill
Sees the sun going down,
and the eyes in his head
see the world spinning round.

@futurebird @nottrobin @vintprox would you be ok with instances removing accounts of people who used links or screenshots to QT a post that a person had opted out? That might be the comprimise that no-QT instances insist on to continue federating with those that allow it.
@dean90815dean A Tesla PowerWall or equivalent is on the list for safe all electric living.
@idamoj and how many decades so you think that will take?
