The work of Wheeler (along with a few others) in the 1950s-70s is often credited with bringing general relativity fully into the physics mainstream.

He also wrote a pretty well-known textbook on the subject with his students Charles Misner and Kip Thorne.

This absolute unit of a book enabled the “don't speak to me or my son ever again" meme pictured below, and is responsible for back problems in a generation of physicists.

@ianbetteridge By “Town Square” businesses like Meta really mean “Shopping Mall”; a space that has the illusion of being a public space but is relentlessly and ruthlessly a private space, with all activities tightly controlled.

@DrPsyBuffy However, folks on Mastodon are mean in a morally superior way! 😇

I like Mastodon, don’t get me wrong. But a lot folks on here who write these kinds of posts also talk about how Mastodon is superior because it isn’t as mean as Twitter, but I’ve seen quite a bit of meanness, it’s just wearing different clothing. Just my .02. 🤷‍♀️

@lauren I find this a good thing because if I'm searching on Google, I generally want a result more substantive than a tweet.

Me: Mastodon is the best. People are friendly, there's no manipulative algorithm, and it's full of interesting content.

Journalist: Amazing, the headline of my article will be "Mastodon is social media's new hope".

Me: Also, there are no ads.

Journalist: Interesting. Let's change that headline to "Mastodon is a toxic cesspool that is already dead".

I just read another news article about why mastodon didn’t make it and is dying. It’s very sad to hear and probably explains why I have to keep adding more server capacity to handle all the people quitting mastodon.

@p1xelHer0 Choosing a programming language has gone from ”which function declaration syntax looks nicest” to ”which community is run by the least insane people”

I assume Amazon workers exchange stories of odd orders they've packed, like the one I just placed for set of kitchen knives and a pair of medical tourniquets.

@georgetakei By the same token SCOTUS is not supposed to consider non-contested issues. Had the state challenged the facts of the case, it might never have made it to SCOTUS, but the state stipulated that it agreed with the facts as presented and that the only controversy was the matter of law. SCOTUS ruled on based the facts that the parties agreed were not in dispute (even if they were not real).

Please, take some time to check in on the ex-Twitter employees in your life.

Not because they need it or anything, I just bet they have some funny stories to share today.
