@freemo It looks legit like something out of a sci-fi film with multi-million dollar CGI. Only better coz its real! Beautiful!

Hi. I had written an earlier post but it lacked details. So a grad student in physics, with applications in (macro-)economics. Have my fingers in lots of pies: Pyrotechnics, Science popularization, Freelance on machine learning and deep learning. Like to learn new languages - computer and human. Interested in new pedagogical techniques and/or bringing teaching into the 21st century. Looking to discuss on any/every topic under the sun. Good day!

@Donus I think the latex code has to be between \( and \) i.e. parentheses and not square brackets.

@aidanbudd have you heard of Spectology? Its pretty good.

@comphys look forward to it. It's been so long since I did any electromagnetism.

Starting my next post which will be about the TEM mode on a two-conductor transmission line. Specifically I'll be looking at a coaxial geometry and using to calculate the field distributions, the characteristic impedance and the Poynting vector. Just had a go and it all seems to be working.

While I'll focus on a coaxial geometry the method can be extended to more complicated geometries just by changing the mesh & boundaries. I've just had a go at an odd mode impedance and it came out just right!

The best thing about this post will be how easy it is.

@IsaacMaw_Robots Here are some more details if you would like to know more: qb50.eu/index.php/project-desc

So our satellite the X-Cubesat was one of the 28 that was launched from the ISS directly. I remember it because we had to make last minute modifications to the satellite body to enable it to fit in the NanoRacks robotic arm aboard the ISS.

Hope this was useful.

Today's #RandomQuestion is...

@indiauplko @Surasanji it's seems like an intriguing possibility. But I have always wondered: to what end? Why simulate humans? And with such complexity? To me it's very similar to the grand design idea from Christianity. In the sense that there is an external agency who made us. Seems like a cop-out to me .

Today's #RandomQuestion is...

@indiauplko @Surasanji things don't have to happen exactly in the manner in which they occurred on earth. Maybe there is some other kind of life does exist somewhere else in the universe. Furthermore, social systems might be very different in some other parts of the universe.

Today's #RandomQuestion is...

@indiauplko @Surasanji thanks for the link. I hadn't heard of this. But going through the Wikipedia page and just off the top of my head, my first critique would be the rather anthropocentric viewpoint or rather a geo-centric viewpoint. I think a lot of times our conceptualisation of life on other planets is predicated on our experiences on earth. Which is a huge meta-assumption in my opinion.

@freemo just like universal grammar for languages, I wonder whether there is some test for universal moral grammar. Children should be the best candidates for this. But then again the universal grammar is some sort of meta-axiom which is useful to conceptualise stuff but doesn't really have some empirical reality. What do you think?

@freemo very interesting. I have always wondered whether human beings are born with some kind of universal moral grammar, something akin to Chomsky's universal grammar for natural languages. Except that this would be for morality. I think it would tie into what you are saying. Essentially everyone in their head is a good person, but the "moral language" they use is at odds with the socially accepted one. Know what I mean?

Hello everyone: are there other instances of mastodon talking about specific stuff like, I dunno, science fiction, fantasy. As an aside, I am totally digging the format which allows for more complete replies, posts and random thoughts. Thanks. :)

Today's #RandomQuestion is...

@Surasanji for me it has to be whether there is life somewhere else in the universe. I would like to think that there is. I mean the universe is VAST and old. This means that the universe would have had enough time and random trials to come up with life many times over. So eventually I would love for humans to have contact with these other life-forms. Which in turn could shed light on how light began on our own pale blue dot. Sounds reasonable?

@IsaacMaw_Robots yeah it was part of the QB50 project of the Von Karman Institute. I don't know specifically which launch it went on. Can find out if you like..

Hello everyone. I am a student in in . Interested in newer ways of mathematics to young students.

@commandelicious and has one of the nicest people you will ever met.

@IsaacMaw_Robots sounds interesting. Especially cubesats. Was part of the team that developed one..
