As a book lover (to perhaps an obsessive level, I admit), an ex-bookseller, writer (of hopefully reasonably accessible academic books) and a voracious reader, I find the results of this survey on reading depressing & disheartening.
Half of all adults in the UK do not read (books) for pleasure....
To some extent the age is unsurprising; I think people often rediscover books once the forced reading of school fades from memory; but even so....

In 'What if?' scenarios I've heard before the US doesn't enter WW1. In real life that view was much closer than you would think. I never realized how dependent the UK were on J P Morgan, so much so that the US could dictate terms by 1917 according to this. #History #WhatIfHistory
