In a nutshell, yes.

I have also subscribed, listened to the beginnings of a couple of episodes, decided it wasn't worth my time, but didn't unsubscribe for a long time.

"In this episode, we look at one of the first English spelling books, and we explore several plays by William Shakespeare to examine the way he rhymed words. We also explore the way modern spellings reflect the pronunciation of words during the Elizabethan period." historyofenglishpodcast.com/20 @podcasts

"A record 10,000 research papers were retracted in 2023. To find out whatโ€™s driving this trend, Ian Sample speaks to Ivan Oransky, whose organisation Retraction Watch has been monitoring the growing numbers of retractions for more than a decade," theguardian.com/science/audio/ @science @podcasts

My favourite #Etymology bit of nonsense info is the word "Clichรฉ"

Its an onomatopoetic word from Francophone print-workers and its original meaning was "a copy of something".
It was ment to mimic the sound an old print press does when the paper is released by the sticky ink of the press over and over.

Try it yourself:
"Clichรฉ-Clichรฉ-Clichรฉ-Clichรฉ-Clichรฉ-Clichรฉ!"

"Indeed, the rapid development of generative AI technologies may intensify technologyโ€™s influence on domains as varied as culture, business, politics, health and education. The risks posed are even more extremeโ€”from increased market concentration to election fraud to even the demise of the human race." scientificamerican.com/article @science

"Ethnic groups are real, but are socially and culturally constructed. More often than not, these groups have not had continuity across time historically, linguistically, culturally, and of course biologically. However, people intuitively tend to essentialize these groups, and DNA often serves as the placeholders for this." blog.oup.com/2024/03/who-do-yo @science

"In this way, La Marmotta is causing a literal sea change in our view of those first Neolithic farming groups. It was always difficult to understand how they could have travelled around all Mediterranean Europe. The Marmotta canoes are not only outstanding evidence of how they achieved that but also an example of the complexity of those societies from the viewpoint of their social and technical organisation."
