#SciFiPrompt 17: Star map from @gus

A curious chart,
from an old chest.
It shows a star,
no longer there.

That tiny spot,
A billion souls.
Some of them fled.
The rest are dead.

A navigator
corrects the map.
It may not matter
tomorrow night.

A supernova
was born today.
Another chart
yet to correct

A menial task
light years away.

#SciFiPrompt 27: Space Pirate from @gus

Settlers of Kepler denounced again a raid to their storage units by pirate ants. A long queque of them could be seen taking fruits and vegetables to their underground anthill.

The administration of the colonization department blamed again the unscrupulous merchants that sell spacesuits to the ants and enable them to roam freely the lunar maria.

"Swift action will be taken" was the latest toot by the admin on that matter.

When I was active at the wikipedia there were a group of other writers who would follow my around and mark my articles on women and black people for deletion. They marked my edits CN even when there was a citation. They reworded everything I wrote to minimize the contributions of minorities to history, and hint at theories of racial inferiority. I'd just go to the library and bury them in more citations. It was kind of violent TBH.

Another curious thing - with both ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot - is that often when they hallucinate an API that doesn't exist their invented design is actually pretty good

Great API design is about consistency and predictability, which is what large language models excel at

So I've started using them as API design assistants for some of my projects now - their suggestions are often exactly what I'm looking for

Someone really needs to build some sort of logarithmic volume filter into linux... a way to keep the normal volume scenes loud enough to hear but reduce the volume on the loud scenes. This way you can listen to a movie in the middle of the night and not annoy your neighbors and not need to keep lowering it everytime an action scene hits.... how is this not a thing already!

Within moments of our people crossing The Boundary out of the #magic realm, we knew something was terribly wrong
Our allies, the great and powerful magicians, could no longer speak
They seemed hardly to understand us at all
They simply wagged their tales & licked our faces
Perhaps they knew the sacrifice they were making in guiding us to this safe dimension, away from hideous evil
For this, they are forever our truest friends
We owe them a debt beyond reckoning

One of my nice friends at Hurricane Electric gave me a dead 100G-LR4 optic to tear apart for your entertainment, so for the sake of your entertainment, lets dig into it! 🧵

Profanity, Rich People, Taxes, Long Post

In a similar "Fuck the Rich" sentiment, I saw a headline today about how "unfair" taxes are to rich people. For fuck sake. I see the same thing every fucking week.

First of all, the US tax rate is pathetic. Millionaires and billionaires in the US pay almost nothing in taxes. Secondly, you play stupid "tax" games to have effective tax rates lower than most Americans because of exemptions and deductions and stupid regressive tax rules.

To all the millionaires and billionaires out there - how do you think you got rich? The "self-made billionaire" bullshit is a fucking myth. Your wealth exists from you (or your ancestors) exploiting workers and labor. Who has to pick up the tab when you don't provide sufficient support for your workers throughout their lifespan? The Government.

Do you sell goods or services? Who protects your right to sell goods and services? Who controls the economy so that it is "fair" (or rather, favors the rich)? The Government. Who pays for and "maintains" (or doesn't) the infrastructure necessary to move your goods and services? The Government. Who protects your wealth and bails your out if you need it? The Government.

Y'all fucking whine about a 15% effective tax rate. That's fucking nothing when you consider that the entire US government essentially exists to protect you and your wealth. From it's founding, the purpose of the US Government (as well as the Police and other public services) has been to protect land, property, and wealth. The government doesn't exist to benefit those of us who rent, or live paycheck to paycheck, it exists to protect the rich. We are a fucking afterthought.

You are complaining about 10%, 15%, even 20% effective tax rates (which most of your wealth isn't even subjected to) when the US Government struggles with debt to pay the basic needs for people. The US Government has programs to keep us alive so that businesses can underpay us, deny us benefits, cut us off, and increase their profits at the expense of the Government.

Everybody deserves the right to life. Who fucking buys your goods and services? Who "makes" the US economy? It is consumers, whether they are able to work or not. The US supports consumers, including lower income and disabled people (although arguably not nearly enough) so that we can survive by buying things. The end result is that we get by (mostly) and you get richer off the Government's money.

It pisses me off to see people complain about how unfair taxes are. Taxes exist to benefit rich people. Taxes exist to keep us alive so that you can keep getting richer. Fuck you. Pay your goddamn taxes and stop complaining, and maybe campaign for common sense reforms (like closing tax loopholes or a more progressive taxation system) and sacrifice a little bit of your wealth and profit for the sake of a functional society so that we can have basic human rights and security.

Fuck rich people.

TLDR: Fuck rich people
