Honestly, the Supreme Court justices today sounded even more deranged and clueless than I even expected. They are just too worried about hypothetical future presidents to focus on the fact that we have a former president indicted for attempting to overthrow an election who is now running for reelection on an explicitly authoritarian, anti-democracy platform. 1/ #LawFedi

It is evident from today's Supreme Court argument that several Justices have entirely abandoned any interest in the rule of law even in the face of the Trump-led insurrection.

The Court had an opportunity to restore its credibility by demonstrating, as it did fifty years ago in US v Nixon, that it stood unanimously behind the rule of law regardless of party loyalty. Instead, it seems poised to demonstrate the opposite: that it is dominated by political hacks.

I've had occasion to ask an AI about a thing twice lately (a recent online phenomenon, and a book recommendation). Both times I asked both Gemini and ChatGPT, and both times one gave a reasonable if bland answer, and the other (a different one each time) gave a plausible but completely fictional ("hallucinated") answer.

When do we acknowledge that LLMs, and "AI" in general, aren't quite ready to revolutionize the world?

Okay... I have a stupid question to ask #writers before I go to bed and regret it. I'm tired. I'm a little stoned. I've just crawled into my cozy little burrow and am so ready to go to sleep... but I just had a thought. A thought that might evolve into something actually worth writing about. But I'm in bed! It's chilly out of the bed! And I'm very tired. Do I, a sleep deprived, anxious wage-slave choose to either:

A) Stay up until three in the morning typing out this thought

B) Write down prompt to try to expand on it tomorrow (fruitless)

or

C) Just say "fuck it," and turn in for the night?

I'm trying to decide if Medium is still a viable place to grow my audience. Lately when I click on people's links I'm being taken to paywall pages (must be a member to read, not just logged in with my account), and I want to be sure I can set my material to be as widely read as possible.

But I know personally I'm starting to hesitate because it feels very pay walled.

I have two existing blogs there that have been dormant for a while.

i love to watch a 3d printer. If i was trying to rob a bank and there was a 3d printer making something next to the vault i would probably fail to rob the bank. I don't know if the 3d printer would really be required for that to happen but i can't see another outcome if a 3d printer gets involved.

Net neutrality means that ISPs don’t get to speed up or slow down your web traffic based on what site you’re visiting. The FCC understood this in 2015, yet left the door open for the creation of fast lanes in their new rules. Tell them to fix this mistake. eff.org/deeplinks/2024/04/fcc-

“It can happen again,” Judge Chutkan, who is expected to preside over Donald Trump’s criminal trial for trying to overturn the 2020 election, said Friday.
“Extremism is alive and well in this country. Threats of violence continue unabated.”
Those threats have become normalized in Republican discourse,
with right-wing figures across the country invoking violence and urging their supporters to arm themselves.
The man behind it all, Donald Trump, has yet to face any consequences thanks to the Supreme Court holding up his case over questions of presidential immunity.
Since the January 6 attack, Trump has not toned down his own rhetoric,
saying that 2024 could be the “last election we ever have”
—and his far-right supporters could try to make that a reality.

“You can’t stop AI crime and abuse now! The genie is out of the bottle!”

It costs literal billions, a small ocean’s worth of water, and electricity that could power nations to keep that genie out of the bottle. They absolutely do not have to make the abuses this easy or cheap
