People who are at high risk of developing severe illness if they contract #Covid are being offered spring booster shots in Canada and the UK. Will the US follow suit? Not clear, but it's looking like probably not.

Do you teach workshops or other short-format training & are interested in some recommendations to help make them more inclusive and effective?

Our Banbury working group put some ideas together into "The Bicycle Principles" which prioritizes evidenced-based teaching, inclusiveness, & equity, & the ability to scale, share, & sustain short format workshops.

Check out the preprint & thanks to everyone who put these together especially Jason Williams & Rochelle Tractenberg!

"Ideal for pre-tenure faculty within the first three years of starting their position and advanced postdoctoral fellows who have accepted a job offer, the main goal of this course is to foster a supportive community of practice. Participants will learn together, building relationships with colleagues who are going through similar experiences."

"The UK is getting “clobbered” by the US and China, says Nightingale, and being outshone by smaller nations such as Singapore, Switzerland and Denmark."

On the one hand, Singapore, Switzerland and Denmark pay their academics a salary commensurate with the many years of necessary training, a life dedicated to the fullest to the job, and the outsized impact of the educational sector's output on the economy. The UK, on the other hand, doesn't. How can anyone be surprised.

From the fundamental concepts of biology, the fact that all organisms now alive share a common ancestor (LUCA) ranks as one of my favorites. When I pause to consider that, despite four billion years of evolution and divergence, my ribosomal RNA shares some stretches of sequence identity with all other autonomous organisms, I still get goose bumps...

Anti-BCMA CART cells in relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma.

"At a median follow-up of 18.6 months, the median progression-free survival was 13.3 months in the ide-cel group, as compared with 4.4 months in the standard-regimen group (hazard ratio for disease progression or death, 0.49; 95% confidence interval, 0.38 to 0.65; P<0.001). A response occurred in 71% of the patients in the ide-cel group and in 42% of those in the standard-regimen group (P<0.001); a complete response occurred in 39% and 5%, respectively."

In 2021 my colleagues removed ~1400 pieces of plastic from the stomachs of 76 fledgling seabirds, and gave them to me to analyse at @NHM_London. It's hard to appreciate the scale of the problem, so I made these spirals to show how the plastics vary in size, shape, and colour.
