@HaelusNovak@mastodon.lol your last poem was really good! I didn’t know about this hashtag but I will definitely start following.

You seethe and complain really elegantly haha

UsPol, Sinema

Lol Sinema leaving the Dems is the least surprising thing ever. I deregistered as a Democrat anyway, but I still feel glad she is removing the thin veneer of her being a Democrat.

Have fun “independently” advancing the GOPs agenda 🙄

@dev_Paul @ColeOnRails @filthypines When I did 100 days of code I didn’t do 100 days straight of programming, but I did finish eventually. It was helpful for me because I got in the habit of sitting down and being able to code for a couple hours.

The other huge benefit is that it gave me a way of communicating “hey, I want to do this and I’m putting in work.” I posted a couple of times on LinkedIn with what I was working on and eventually someone from the marketing department in my company introduced me to a software engineering manager. From there I have been working on side projects in software eng for a year and now am interviewing for a job! 🤞

That last part is irrelevant but I do know one other person who did 100 days and after applying elsewhere found an opportunity where he worked to switch to software development.

Studying definitely paid off on my calc final. Instead of rushing to the buzzer I had 30 minutes at the end to check my answers. Glad I got it out of the way so I can relax and be covidy tomorrow.

@lucifargundam you definitely convinced me that I would rather have COVID 😂

@lucifargundam my wife would kill me if I got pregnant lol! We have enough children(but love the ones we have)

@PHolder deleted my original post because I was thinking of the original raspberry pi announcement on the ex surveillance expert being employed by the foundation. That’s good trolling!

Another term of allowing students to ask me questions anonymously during class. >800 Q in 66 Chem101 lectures, and always a different flavour to the ones I get via traditional hand-raising (the ones below aren't at all representative, just some fun examples)

@trinsec yeah, very true. I’m very lucky so far to not have a clear long covid case, but time will tell now. I have all the vaccines except for the recent booster. I was refused because I lost my original vaccine card so I am working on getting it replaced(fun US healthcare).

@trinsec thanks, i don’t want to jinx it but this is slightly less bad or more familiar the second time!

I appreciate it!

Round two of covid. Starting with thanksgiving we have battled the flu and then covid. Looking forward to checking off most of the wintertime illnesses after I am done with this!

I know it best from @aral and his Small Tech Foundation (small-tech.org/about/), but it may have originated elsewhere.

It's a movement to make software personal (and more) again.

So often, I'm reminded about the broken state of IT today. Barriers to entry everywhere are ridiculously high.

Self-hosting anything is incredibly stressful, often requiring you to be skilled as a system administrator to the point where you could make a living off of it.

I know why, of course.

Capitalism rewards enclosure. Money flows to companies who want customers on their terms, so solutions are designed to service thousands of people and for professionals to operate.

We need #SmallTech.

@RL_Dane My constant recommendation is Crafting Interpreters (craftinginterpreters.com/) by Robert Nystrom. Everyone should read this book, and it's available online for free. The second part implements a full language and a VM for it, in C. If you have some passing knowledge of C, it will get you the rest of the way there.

It doesn't cover make/cmake or any other build system, which is necessary for anything non trivial. I just had to learn that through trial and error.

I have a couple of post-bootcamp candidates who interviewed (very) well for our junior role at CoverageBook, but we couldn't hire, does anyone want a warm intro?

Slide into my DMs?

(Boosts helpful!)

Some more tiny truck #paintings. This set is more focused on quiet scenes. I also included a #cat in each which will be a thing going forward. Again in #acrylagouache. I also included my ongoing cyclops archeological mini series within the larger #keitruck series.
