@realcaseyrollins @shibaprasad For the Windows and Mac versions, installing from the website is not a problem.

I have been digging about the Android app, and there's some problem with Google Play, which is not showing the app in most cases.

It DOES show the app page if:

- you are logged into google with an account which HAS installed it previously (like the one I use on my phone). But even then, although I get the page and it's got the same version I have installed, it does NOT work for downloading an apk, or I would be getting and sharing it with you. Problem is described and listed in the github pages.

So, please give the Windows or Mac versions a try. Android, we need to sideload the older v.60 apk, or wait until it shows up normally.

@shibaprasad Checked the version, and on my phone I have version 68.0.a2

The apk listed above seems to be version 60, as per the page. Looked at Play store and definitely not there atm. 😔

Found an article describing what's good about it.

@shibaprasad In my opinion, yes. You can try it out without breaking your existing installation -- just download the Waterfox release, run the installer, and it will create it's own directory, copy your FF settings and bookmarks, etc.

You will just need to install any extensions you have currently again, from inside Waterfox.

I do like it. 😃 There is an Android version too, but it's currently not listed on Play store, he must be too busy maintaining the two desktop versions now (one man dev team).

In case you are not happy, uninstall it and nothing is lost in the current FF install.

@tcql Also might consider an alternative to the Mozilla Firefox release, while you are experimenting?

I really like the Waterfox project, a FF with no tracking and talkback to Mozilla.

Waterfox has TWO branches now, the "Current"branch is code updated with current Firefox releases, and amazingly fast. The other, "Classic" branch supports lots of older Firefox extensions which Mozilla blocked long time ago.

@tcql@octodon.social I found a Firefox extension that works for the Times and a number of other sites. Very cool.

Not on the FF extensions pages, you need to get it from author's Github. Easy install, recommended.

( Does not seem to work with Washington Post, unfortunately)

@pschwede Finland had an UBI experimental project recently. We had one in Ontario, Canada, which was immediately cancelled when a retrograde government took over in 2018.

The Finnish one was quite interesting. Guardian has an article:

@Karthikdeva You are very welcome. I found it excellent reading, and the photos are great too.

We don't know much about Siberia, but it's an immense region that will be changing a lot.

The sheer size of Russia can only really be appreciated on a globe or a nice big world map.

@judgedread @amerika I use uBlock Origin in my various devices. Was suprised the other day when a newspaper site opened in an unusual browser (not Waterfox Android, which has uBlock in) and it was so completely overwhelmed by ads.

Can people use a newspaper site with that amount of junk? I found it disgusting.

I did read a post about some new AI project to mask ad content so adblockers would be broken. 😔

I have been a user in a good community that had that founder death happen, and luckily it continued on. (MVgroup.org, a documentaries fans site)

Starting up a new instance/server by oneself is also scary, as over time you might get tired of operating it, or from the friction and demands a growing site can bring. Getting other users to form a staff and volunteer to assume moderation and maintenance, co-admin rules is essential. That is what kept mvgroup going, even after the founder and another senior admin passed away over the years.

@freemo @Surasanji That and the fact that we get exposed to unexpected content, which might turn interesting and expand minds.

I am very tired of the repetitiveness of posts on the Facebook feed, so barely visit and even less post there. I have a lot of Brazilian friends, most into Cycling, and they are split pretty badly into opposing political lines nowadays.

Even reading the news about the country I find depressing, and would rather have them from a good source, like the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper.

Meme, name calling and such, I have no need for. The country has serious problems (I immigrated many years ago in despair), and there's little we can do individually, or seating at a keyboard or tapping a phone screen.

@freemo You have done really well. This is a great community and service, thank you.

@freemo @Surasanji Yeah, I am not much into the cliques as well.

In the large sites, it might be a way to stay afloat though. I barely received any mentions or replies from posts in Twitter, so there's less reason to return. Hard to create a community there.

Here I was surprised on how soon I was receiving replies and boosts from other instances even.

The users here are nice as well, and the community size seems ideal; not too small, so there's action and new posts to keep us interested; not too large that we get lost on the flood.
