@zeccano Hoem instance means the server where we have our own account.

For both of us, it's qoto.org

You can have more than one, if there's a good reason. Although it can get more confusing, at least in the beginning.

Some instances have different themes, and you might be able to talk about things with people with similar interests, get better insights.

some are General, all topics go, as long as the server rules are respected.

@zeccano for a test and example, try to find the post that contains this:

"Deus Ex: Human Resources"

it's fresh, just posted at another instance, see if you can locate it.

@zeccano Hello and welcome to Qoto.

Were you readign that post you wanted to reply at another instance, another browser tab?

If so, it can be responded to there -- but that server has to confirm that you are a legit, registered user somewhere. To avoid spam.

So it pops up a window to ask for your home instance, and once it's confirmed, you can reply there.

You can also do it from here -- use the search box and input a user name or some text that is unique to that post. Once found, you can reply immediately.

@moonshine@freespeechextremist.com lol, had to go look up sosig.

Very unappetizing, the orig meme with Gord Ramsey. Can't unsee but won't inflict on people here.

Some food 'bout now would be nice. /me heads kitchen.

@freemo
I have a feeling they are more connected, a crowd of very active people. Favourites and Boosting from many other instances to the same posts I made on TW and crossposted here.

Not complaining, interesting to notice.

@renatolond

@freemo
Point in favour of keeping two crossposters active - my bridged posts at my other instance have received a lot more reactions than here. Surprising since it's a smaller number of users, but probably more active and engaged.

Got to say that the wonderful full post word search we have here at Qoto is missing, sadly, at the other instance.

Super handy feature, specially since we don't have proper bookmarks in Mastodon yet. UI have dug lots of my own posts very quick, simply with a word search.

Crossposting of Twitter replies, my own showed here, via Moa, properly into the thread as posted in twitter. The same replies did not appear on the other instance yet, via Crossposter, but it might be missing some control switch. 🤔

@renatolond

(this test thread proving that MOA can handle replies to tweet thread with aplomb. Neat)

Moa crossposter is at moa.party/

Because of its popularity in Chinese communities (including Chinatowns in the United States)[5] the maneki-neko is frequently mistaken for being Chinese in origin rather than Japanese, and is incorrectly referred to as a "Chinese lucky cat" [5] or jīnmāo ("golden cat").

Modern Japanese superstition suggests that keeping a talisman of good fortune, such as the maneki-neko, in bedrooms and places of study will bring about favorable results and life successes.

@freemo

Aha!! Newbie that I am, just discovered that Renato's tool ALSO allows Keywords OR Hashtags as desired. To allow or block crossposting.

Had missed it, with all the new controls I wasnt familiar with yet.

(And have too many things on the go too, possibly)

@renatolond

@freemo
Thank you for mentioning Moa. It is a very spartan page, one menu only, but it works and the hashtag trigger option is neat.

Renato's is easier for a new user like me, who learned by testing that I had missed options his page clearly explains, with a short example. And it works well, it's faster than Moa atm.

@renatolond

@realcaseyrollins It is a little statue that sometimes Japanese people keep in their homes or places of business. A pretty story, that goes back to ancient times, and how a monk treated the cats, his only companions on a mountain temple.

It's the figure on the image above. 😉

Oooooh. ☹️

@freemo

There was a little delay, he's probably processing a large number of accounts. But it did work, and the choice of crossposting or not via a hashtag is a nice one. 🤔

@renatolond

@freemo

Ah, wonderful!!!!

And look at that Cat!!

/we own the Internets for sure.

@CatDisapproval

@freemo

Yes, for sure. I just made a test post with MOA and I don't see it here yet. Maybe a delay? Or I have something configured wrong, checking now.
