@freemo I am a huge Fettucine fan, and wish I could find the wider ones here in Canada. Difficult, we have many styles of pasta but one size fits all Fettucine, Argh.

I find it makes for a tasty plate of pasta always. Other people prefer other pasta styles, some like Spaghetti, which I find tends to taste watery in comparison. Less Bite into the thin pasta strands.

In Italy, pasta is serious business.

And there's even Science behind some of the discussions - like what style of Penne is the best, for taste and other reasons?

Lisce, the smooth kind? Or Rigate, the more common one with ridges on its surface?

Get your Penne fix from this Quartz article.

**Italy fumbles coronavirus lockdown orders**

"People crowded onto trains on Saturday night to preempt government measures aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19. Italian media and politicians have been criticized for the confusing rollout of the new controls."

Last train out of Town before quarantine restrictions.

An interesting story from an Italian Associated Press reporter who was in Padua, Northern Italy Saturday.

And the news of the upcoming quarantine for the whole region leaked in the press - just in time for her to catch the last train out of town before midnight.

@11112011
Italy and Iran are already feeling more widespread contamination and sickness, deaths (seems that Iran has the highest numbers, statistically; probably their hospitals are overwhelmed by the demand and the equipment needed to treat serious cases).

Saturday night, Italy set a hard restriction of people moving in or out of Lombardy and other closer regions. The North of Italy is where the largest part of the Gross National Product is generated. There will be economic costs, besides the human suffering and older relatives being left there while some of their family might be in other regions of Italy.

In the UK, they are projecting numbers of people possibly being infected, and it will be hard for their Health System to cope; their best action is to try to delay the spread, to ease the burden on the NHS.

I just started reading another interesting article on the NY Times :

@dave

@dave @11112011 LOL.... That was funny, I will admit.

The Orange Guy is worried and trying to downplay the seriousness of the epidemic. While propping the stock market indices which he loves to point to while they are so high up.

The virus is spreading and will do so on most countries; how things will go, is uncertain, but there will be economic impacts (drop in production and commerce, people off work due to quarantine or sickness). And the American health system is not particularly well suited to the shock of an epidemic, many people don't have insurance coverage, and some have co-pays that will create hardship.

@freemo
The NY Times one? Oh, sorry about that.

I do use a Bypass Paywalls extension on Firefox and it works really well; Maybe try opening the link on a new Private window/tab?

Or better yet, if you do have FF, visit github.com/iamadamdev/bypass-p and check it out. 😛

@freemo

Good analysis, and it looks pretty bleak if you are correct and it comes to pass.

Just finished an article at the NY Times that argues that Trump's actions (and in certain cases, lack of) on the corona virus issue might seal his chance; if things turn bad, which is pretty likely.

@freemo
It's worrisome that the choice seems to be turning into a contest between him (with all the failings, and lack of excitement, proposals that attract younger voters, etc) or the man currently residing at the White House.

Gosh, that's ghastly.

As someone has mentioned in this thread, it's possible some of Bernie's supporters get pissed off and abstain from voting all together, easing the Orange Menace back in again. That is a nightmare, imo.

@matrix

A good article on The Guardian, talking about how older people prefer boring but safe when things look uncertain.

Last paragraph says some of Trump's supporters could take the same option if things get worse economically, they have little savings to weather a slow down or partial shutdown of the economy.

@matrix LOL, this one I don't mind, and it's actually funny. :)

The ones with Bidden touching young girls are cringe-worthy though.

@snow This toilet paper hoarding thing started in Hong Kong, people lugged home and stashed pack and packs, in small apartments.

Sometimes you could even see if from outside, the big stacks, according to a news item I read.

Hope people have food in case there's a stay home period due to quarentines. Cant'eat the toilet paper after all, lol.

'It isn't Mad Max': women charged after fight over toilet paper in Sydney

Two women, aged 23 and 60, will face court over a brawl at a western Sydney supermarket

@mewmew They will campaing in a dirty way indeed, it will be nasty.

Bidden doesn't have the nomination yet, correct, but what would happen if Bernie wins it? Another nastiness scenario, many people won't vote for him.

These preliminary salvos are already showing GOP people won't care about decency, just about damaging their opponents.
