@Kovaelin
Used is the best way to buy them -- but get it from the off-lease stream, like I mentioned.
Look at some of those --> https://www.wintroniccomputers.com/1762-0/refurbished/notebook-workstations/lenovo
@freemo get one of your own posts, closest possible and ABOVE where you would like to split a thread.
Del/redraft. Repost. Bye rest of posts below it.
@k11m1
I see. Depending on where you are, you might be able to get some great deals on off-lease hardware.
here in my region, I can get Business class IT gear for quite low prices - people use t for 3 years, then get new lease and new gear.
Big names and loaded, well built machines. Not consumer grade, those came with full 3 years warranty to start with. And yet, now they are cheap -- too many of them around.
Great for buyers.
@Kovaelin
@freemo BTW -- was thinking.
We should discuss and try to propose something.
When someone deletes or delete/redraft a post halfway thru a thread, the rest of it goes into limbo.
I would suggest it should be posted to whoever is the next Toot in the topic -- keeping all below intact.
I am quite tempted to use Delete/Redraft as a moderation tool, when people hijack threads, to be honest. One of those weak areas in mastodon, since they model themselves on Twitter.
A Forum mod would quickly deal with wayward posts, like I do on our Discourse Forum. Miss that, badly.
@freemo ...like a fatherless toot?
@k11m1 @Kovaelin But I can undertand stickers, my son likes them. Online, you should be able to find some nice ones.
Gotta be something radical, to make sense, imo.
ok -- Bing'ed --> https://www.techrepublic.com/pictures/the-50-coolest-laptop-stickers-of-all-time/
I like my laptops on the nude, pretty as they were made. But then, Thinkpads and EliteBooks are soooo good looking, lol.
Love them. Typing this as most of my fediverse content, on my oh-so-lovely HP EliteBook. Best computer in the house.
Full Aluminum, military-spec chassis design. And it's years old but kicks the ass of most new models.
We had all kinds of interesting things on Fidonet. It was an international network, we connected to people overseas via mail, and if we wanted a file, via a dial up connection to the person who had it. I had people calling my system overnight, from Europe to north America to pick up a file -- over dial up lines, with modems and overseas length pathways.
We also had politics, conflict and conflict resolution - thi basic principle was always very clearly on everyone's minds. 😺
Would it work in a fast paced network? yes. We had messages not a today's speeds or hell-threads like here sometimes -- but lots of fun nevertheless.
I have met a few instance admins who were Fidonet veterans like myself, and there is a live BBS in the Net right now, I believe. @ij is one of these cool friends, and still a Fidonet node operator.
Besides running a cool mastodon instance AND a much less common Friendica one at https;//nerdica.net/#
Can I plug my own blog here -- honestly a great read on this topic.

I can see different uses, possible and maybe concurrent.
I love Forums and have many years of experience, think it shows, right ?
There is a place for different things, and we can adjust and adapt (or we should) to fulfill users wants and needs. FB sucks as a platform, since we can't find content. Twitter boils with conflicts, although I am able to stay away and use it -- my account there is growing. And, Cats. 😃
For my personal publishing, it's a Magazine page style and level that I aim for; I do call them Web Magazine pages.
A good Forum has kick ass advantages in organizing content and retrieving it. Still my top platform, as theory goes.
But people are getting lazy and spoon fed by FB and other never stop streams of content, on their face. It's for information consumption, less than content production --- which is my goal for organized thoughts and contents.
