@realcaseyrollins Yes, sounds like it. Good luck, and a more responsive staff place is a better home to be in.

@freemo Wonderful! Nice to finish the day on a high note like that.

@onatinadresi Good guess, I was born there. But I was talking about Canada, where I have lived for many years.

We are 1 tenth of their population and economy size. Pretty hard on our local culture, although Canadians take great pride in not being Americans. 😉

Then you see the stories about American backpackers, sewing a Canadian flag to their packs, as a measure of avoiding some resentment while traveling overseas.

@onatinadresi They are a different bunch, I agree.

I am culturally much more European fan, although I do live in a country near their borders.
We do get a wash of their media, incessant and brain washing people here too.

@onatinadresi It is possible, yes.

The main problem is the nuance on the notion of 'free speech'.

American interpretation, imo as an outside observer is that all is justified, in the name of it.

Including behaviour and speech that other societies frown upon.

For many people in those other societies, me included, respect for other human beings should be upmost, and free speech shouldn't be an excuse for boorish behaviour.

There are big cultural differences at play, and a national concept in one place does not apply to other locales and cultures.

Have a look at those two screenshots. See the differences?

@realcaseyrollins I loved it too.

LOL, we were all excited about it. See the whole convo here. _hackers.town/@c0debabe/1033026

I am looking forward to the enhancements in GlitchSoc to percolate to other versions and forks.

Our sys admin here, @freemo has already mentioned he would like to merge some of these into the QOTO fork itself.

Time to do that is the problem, but the idea stands.

Cheers, ! 😉 🍾 🍷

* Glitch Homepage is github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon

I love it, fresh new features include a strictly LOCAL, not federated at all option when you create any post.

But this Toot series is about the MarkDown, and here are the controls that enable it. Or even the choice to use full html tags on post if desired.

What is going on? HOW did you get that text so?

The first pic was taken at a Glitch-Soc instance, a Mastodon fork which has some new ideas and controls.

The second one shows the same post, as seen on a regular instance, running a fork of mastodon 2.9.3.

The difference is down to MarkDown language, a simple text formatting language I am starting to learn and use on some places (blog, note taking support it.)

We just played around on an unlisted thread, and some fun things were learned.

Do you see any differences?

( first of a series of posts )

@onatinadresi @realcaseyrollins

Yes, and here you are not receiving only what their algorithms select to show you. So annoying, when I made a nice post, have 200 friends or more, maybe 10 people see it.

If one of those doesn't interact with your post, the rest will never see it.

Just posts that are liked and get little emoji replies are more widely show.

Had enough of their repetitive posts, not even visiting now.

This post with sample markdown.. and then seen here at Qoto has no format or stray text marking.

@kkhanam If that is the one, a good way to keep a bookmark on a post it to either:

* Boost it, and it will show on your own profile Toots.

* put a reply on topic, also will show.

* use a custom hashtag in your post, Karl uses a cool one he invented, which relates to his username.

Have you heard about Trunk for the Fediverse?

Have made a mirror copy of my Blog posted listed above, here at our QOTO.org Discourse Forums.

Why? Well, maybe someone wants to read and leave a comment, or maybe they will just stumble into it while visiting the Forums.

@realcaseyrollins @freemo

Let us know, maybe on your profile here, what you are active on and can share expertise, maybe what line of studies you are in.

I love collecting and organizing tid bits and presenting them in a nice format so people can grasp it easier.
