"In my last few posts I talked a bit about Pleroma. Since then, we had a lot of questions about what Pleroma is, how it is different from GNU Social and Mastodon, why you should use it and so on. This post will be an introduction to Pleroma, so read on if you are interested.

What is Pleroma?

Pleroma is a microblogging server software that can federate (= exchange messages with) other servers that support the same federation standards (OStatus and ActivityPub). What that means is that you can host a server for yourself or your friends and stay in control of your online identity, but still exchange messages with people on larger servers. Pleroma will federate with all servers that implement either OStatus or ActivityPub, like GNU Social, Friendica, Hubzilla and Mastodon."

@freemo And from this and other epic letters, I was voted as a great candidate to work with Tourism Portugal, as I absolutely LOVE the country.

Been there at this time of the year, for the past 3 Springs.

I would accept a position with Tourism Portugal in a heartbeat too. 😄

@freemo and anyone interested in Culture and Great Food. :)

From a letter I wrote to a pen pal, my impressions on the theme of Chouriço versus Chorizo.

Portugal and España are neighbours, but Portugal was a country since around 1130 -- when the rest of Ibéria was a patchwork of small kingdoms and Moorish domains.

------[ Forwarded Letter segment ]------

Chouriço is indeed a bit different from the Spanish Chorizo - I had found a great website once that explained it quite well, will search in a minute and see if I can locate it again for you.

In my own words, I would say, comparing the examples I bought and ate along during my bicycle trip in Portugal and Spain in 2017 :

- The Spanish one has an intense red tone inside it, I think it get a load of Pimentón during fabrication.
- The Portuguese one was available in different variations at the supermarkets; some with Wine, some with Onion, and a number of other variants. I did find the Spanish ones a bit more fatty, at least the ones I purchased; the Portuguese ones you could see chunks of meat inside and the ocassional white fat blob, but it wasn't spread out in the whole sausage as in the Spanish case.

I did prefer the Portuguese ones, because it seemed more artisanal and tasted better.

Looked around and I did not find that exact page I had seen, which had some well explained diferences. But Wikipedia has a good page for Chorizo, which includes regional varieties, including Portugal -- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chorizo

I liked this answer I found at a Quora page, written by a Portuguese, which confirms my impressions :

"André Braga, Portuguese - represented Portugal in the Youth European Parliament 2011

There are quite a few differences. I will compare chouriço (PT) with chorizo (ES) from a Portuguese perspective (as I am Portuguese).

Chouriço VS Chorizo:

Chouriço has a stronger wine flavor;
Chouriço is normally darker and less bright;
Chouriço has a stronger flavor (but normally less spicy);
Raw cold Portuguese chouriço is very flavorful.

I love both chouriço and chorizo. As a piece of advice - you pay what you get. Go for the good quality ones and you will have an amazing experience regardless of the one you chose :)"

I located a really good photo, attaching here, which shows what I expect to find in a good Portuguese Chouriço - leaner meat, some odd chunks of fat here and there, in moderation. A smoked look, and dried. This would be ready to be eaten as a snack or light meal, it's great with some wine and good bread, maybe even some cheese. :)

@11112011 Just looking at that, the whole table. Perfect spread.

Chicken prepared with it, accompanied by a cold Sagres (or Super Bock, if one is on the North region in PT) is delightful. @11112011 can confirm. 😜

For the discerning people who like some spice, not caustic, but flavourful.

Piri-Piri sauce, common in Portugal and found in many places with local Portuguese communities, is wonderful.

Wiki knows it : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peri-per

For us far from there, the memories, a supermarket bottle, or maybe even homemade?

I had to go take a look.

An instance admin with 1,200 posts only, that sounds low for someone in a leadership position, and there since Jan 2018. I have been here for 6 months, and have 5,000+ posts.

Some pretty graphics, but I think she has varied interests (as shown by links in profile) and the mastodon instance is just one of many.

Not judging the instance, but just some comments from first look. I had not heard about it till now.

But wait -- is it Important which instance you are in?

Yes, I think so - and wrote a nice Blog page about it.

QOTO is a nice one (the reason you see me posting from here, and being a volunteer on staff).

But I am a traveler by nature, and love to explore other Cultures.

So, I do wander on other lands and Caravanserais.

** Instance Recommendation : **

I don't have an account there, and am not familiar with it, other than reading their About pages, and seeing the admin successfully take on a migration from plain main stream Mastodon to a newer and more Feature rich Glitch Soc instance.

This migration seems complete, the site is up and responsive, so consider Koyu.Space -- even the name is cool. :)

Plus -- Important for me, European located, EU Hosted and under EU privacy and other laws.

(Not the usual US ones)

koyu.space/about/more

Not only they have a mastodon instance, but other services as well; see their uptime here:

...and what does the Enhanced, Rich Text post looks like here in a Mastodon instance?

if you Copy the post link, and Search for it inside mastodon, it will open the remote post, and display it within Mastodon's own client environment.

I am attaching a Screenshot of the Nice Pleroma created post, MarkDown formatted (as show in the previous screenshot) -- and how it looks here.

Plain Jane. Pitiful, but ** NOTHING Broken **... 😛

Highlighting something which I think is absolutely UNIQUE in Husky, compared to other mobile clients :

- Markdown support with WYSIWYG editor

So people whose accounts are in instances running Progressive, more Advanced software, with support Pleroma's Mastodon API extensions (at this point Pleroma and Glitch Social instances) CAN use either:

* Plain Text.
* OR enhanced text formatting, via either MarkDown or BBcode tags.

These are supported in the Client, in a GUI environment, and will display the Rich Formatted text in the instances all over the Fediverse which support this feature.

That does NOT break or mangle the toot content in plan-vanilla Mastodon ones (majority at the moment), which simply STRIPS the format tags and display plain text version.

Examples of a post shown in screenshots at a Pleroma instance and in a mastodon timeline are attached.

I originally wrote the toot here at Qoto, then copied it into a Pleroma account to show the possibilities -- I find the image should give a good idea on how much BETTER it can look with a little added Formatting love.

** Ever heard about Husky ?

* Husky is a fork of Tusky that aimed to support Pleroma's Mastodon API extensions and some ideas that I may come up with.

* Tusky is quote, unquote,

... a beautiful Android client for [Mastodon](github.com/tootsuite/mastodon). Mastodon is an ActivityPub federated social network. That means no single entity controls the whole network, rather, like e-mail, volunteers and organisations operate their own independent servers, users from which can all interact with each other seamlessly.

* Main changes so far

- Emoji reactions support
- Removed attachment limits for Pleroma
- Support for attaching anything on Pleroma
- Support for changing OAuth application name
- Markdown support with WYSIWYG editor
- Support for extended accounts fields, so you can see who is admin or moderator on your instance
- Subscribing support to annoy you with incoming notification from every post
- Support for seen notifications to less annoy you
- “Reply to” feature that allows to jump to replied status, useful for hellthreading ;)

...and much more. See the Husky home at : git.mentality.rip/FWGS/Husky
Bigger emojis!

@p you're welcome to make an account any time on this piece of shit raspberry to get the real poverty experience. 2GB RAM, 64GB uSD. roar.

Maybe someday will support text formatting like and already do?

It improves not only visual impact, but communication of ideas by judicious use of as desired.

For me, it's an important advantage. Both alternative platforms support Markdown as a user option in Toot editor. Please? And thank you.

is way ahead in UI and Features, Mastodon pales in comparison.

Resources use, much less.

Easier installation and maintenance. Better new admin installation guides.

Hoy se cumplen 72 años del Nakba, la catástrofe del pueblo palestino. 72 años de exterminio, 72 de barbarie, 72 años de aislamiento, 72 años de silencio.

Corporate Networks are unwieldly morons.

Not like poor Beast, a lovely Cat whose account gets the Rough Treatment that ABUSERS and such (DJT) Don't GET.

Create an Account on Mastodon, Beast -- there are many Feline lovers there too.
