"Humanity stands on the cusp of a new age, with accelerated technological growth converging toward a singularity point, promising an undreamt-of future. Despite the ecopocalypse and social upheavals on Earth, humanity has conquered the solar system and partially terraformed Mars. Advancements in biotechnology, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and cognitive science have transformed our lives. Everyone is wirelessly networked with the world around them, AIs process vast amounts of information, and nano-fabrication enables people to “print” complex devices from the molecular level—at home. Biotechnology allows people to genefix, enhance, and clone their bodies, while others pursue body modifications to adapt to new environments or make themselves into something no longer quite human. People’s minds and memories can be digitized, uploaded, transferred over long distances, and downloaded into new bodies (biological or synthetic). Death has been defeated—for those who can afford it."
OMG, wonderful art.

"Birth order refers to the order a child is born in their family; first-born and second-born are examples. Birth order is often believed to have a profound and lasting effect on psychological development. This assertion has been repeatedly challenged.[1] Recent research has consistently found that earlier born children score slightly higher on average on measures of intelligence, but has found zero, or almost zero, robust effect of birth order on personality.[2] Nevertheless, the notion that birth-order significantly influences personality continues to have a strong presence in pop psychology and popular culture.[3][4] " from:

This is a wonderful theory, that really makes sense to me. Wish I had an older Sister to look up to growing up.
At the moment, my view is something along the lines of:
- Do what you can as an individual, to the best of your ability
- Don't be overburdened by guilt if you can't do it all
- Be very conscious that not everyone is in a position to do what you think is 'doing the right thing' (including yourself)
- The system is pretty rigged against doing the right thing, so ultimately the system is the one that needs to change
- Individual behaviour change is probably a part of bringing about system change
That guy is clearly very disgusting, but in the future my suggestion is when these people attack just say "please leave me alone" that way if they continue we have grounds to claim harassment.
While his views were disgusting and would get him a block on qoto itself he is on another instance. So generally we arent as quick to block whole instances unless a person engages in harassment (doesnt go away when asked). Being rude and insulting gets you banned in qoto but not, by itself, would it get another instance banned.
With that said this is somewhat related to the nature of qoto. Because it isnt local but is coming from an instance it gives users unique power to simply mute an entire instance and problem solved. There are only a handful of instances (maybe 5 or 6) that allow that sort of behavior so it is easy to mute the whole server from the users account.
Obviously since we dont allow people like that locally it means you will never have to deal with them in your feed once you activate that initial mute.

A good guide is on the Privacy page: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/usage/privacy/
The page also has good explanations on muting or blocking users if needed.
Good read!

"DES MOINES — Pete Buttigieg continues to surge in Iowa, leapfrogging Senator Elizabeth Warren and former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. to hold a commanding lead among likely Democratic caucusgoers, according to a new poll from The Des Moines Register and CNN.
The poll showed that Mr. Buttigieg, the 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Ind., was the first choice for 25 percent of would-be Democratic caucusgoers, a significant increase from the 9 percent he held in September, when The Register last polled the state. The support placed him far ahead of the rest of the field — with the other three top candidates in a virtual tie for second: Ms. Warren, at 16 percent and Mr. Biden and Senator Bernie Sanders at 15 percent."

Fedilab LITE version -- link Correction !
I did the two posts above from Fedilab Lite, which still not very familiar with it.
The LITE version page at F-Droid is on this location : https://f-droid.org/en/packages/app.fedilab.lite/
The Lite version is *NOT* listed at Google Play at this moment, or at least I can't find it on a search or under the author's other programmes page.
Compared to the full version, which I haven't used yet, this is less than half the size; might signal it's easier on battery life as well.

Was looking around in the Settings menus, which in the Lite version are simplified. Took some snapshots, my phone uses Portuguese as systems language.
Interesting, was able to increase maximum toot size to 3,000 characters. 👍🤗
Not that I would ever type that mu h on mobile, but it's the first client I tried that allows it, other than the mastodon web client, which gets the instance settings perfectly.
It looks nice, I would recommend it, and it does other Fedi tasks like video and music sharing too.
The counter on the bottom. Of the editor area already shows me near 600 characters on this post, and it's not. Locking me from sending it. YEY!

And a good reporter should try out things, so here I am... Via Fedilab Lite, which I just discovered on F-Droid. 👍😏
It seems nice and this is smaller version, 12 MB download only.

Trump himself is clearly not satisfied with only one article of impeachment.
His choice to publicly broadcast his own, personally authored witness intimidation means he’s wants to sign up for another article on obstruction of justice, too. https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1195356198347956224

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.fedilab.android
OR -- you can get it FREE of charge, donnations accepted, from F-Droid :

F-Droid is easiest if you install their client app - from there you will have access to many interesting and clean Open Source Apps.

If I posted text posts about anything I cared about on facebook the algorithm would not show it to almost anyone thats even following me. It would literally just drop off the radar and be forgotten. I post a random thought here and people from around the world actually have a chance to respond. That is powerful. That cant be underplayed. The fact that we dont have to worry whether our messages have financial viability makes our ideas stronger. Our voices ring.
Mash Potatoes, no cream or butter recipe!
"If you think cream and butter are required to make amazing mashed potatoes, then this recipe might surprise you. It calls for Yukon Gold potatoes, which are naturally creamier than russets and need only to be mashed with a little of their cooking water to become rich and fluffy. "
