Sensorimotor #polyneuropathy may be common in treated autoimmune thyroiditis, but, unlike in other causes of #neuropathy (e. g. #diabetes), it has a unique pattern in quantitative sensory testing (#QST) with low thresholds for mechanical and thermal pain.
Should we, therefore, classify #syndrome_T as a psychosomatic disease? This would be premature and probably wrong. We found signs of sensorimotor and autonomic #neuropathy that depend on autoimmunity and #thyroid's secretory capacity (#SPINA_GT).
Our newest paper provides new insights into the conundrum of #syndrome_T / #sorshot. #Anxiety and #depression are significantly more common in autoimmune #thyroiditis compared to healthy controls.

Therefore, the non-increased and, in many cases, even reduced beta cell function in metabolic syndrome may not mirror an "either-or" question but be part of continuous evolution. It may be a source of prediabetes and diabetes but also prevent insulinoma.
The answer to this question may be in glucose toxicity leading to a biphasic response, thereby preventing neoplastic effects of dynamical compensation by mutant takeover.

Recently, computer simulations with #SimulaBeta played a key role in the development of the fasting-based disposition index SPINA-DI, a substantially improved method to assess the function of the #insulin-#glucose feedback loop and for early diagnosis of #diabetes mellitus. https://doi.org/10.1111/1753-0407.13525
Early diagnosis of #diabetes continues to be a challenge. Recently, we developed a disposition index of insulin-glucose #homeostasis from fasting blood samples. The new parameter is not only less expensive but perhaps even better than established measures. https://doi.org/10.1111/1753-0407.13525
