Last month I received this original Amiga dealer poster that used to hang on the wall in a shop in Oregon. It is on very thick backing and measures 22w x 28h. It’s simply magnificent.
If it continues then it should be visible after dark, clouds permitting 🙂

Now I discover that the VPN (expressVPN) I've been using is Israeli owned and had a spy as one of its execs. It means there is the possibility of surveillance back doors.

It doesn't matter how bad FF is
what matters is how it compares, **overall** to other browsers, and how much you personally value certain things

My latest review for New Elementary has just been published, featuring the LEGO Monkie Kid Celestial Pagoda (80058) which is a lovely model - so good I bought a second copy! https://www.newelementary.com/2024/09/review-80058-celestial-pagoda-from-lego.html

"It used to be that what a writer did was type a bit and then stare out of the window a bit, type a bit, stare out of the window a bit.
Networked computers make these two activities converge, because now the thing you type on and the window you stare out of are the same thing." -- Douglas Adams, 1999
In any case, I selected in privacy preferences that I DO NOT WANT TO SUBMIT CRASH REPORTS. EVER.
Not that I want to be prompted each time whether I'm really sure that I do not want to submit crash reports.
Fuck this "yes means yes, no means ask me again" bullshit. Do better, @mozilla.
I accidentally bricked my iPad mini 6th Gen last week. The one bit that is dead is the USB-C charging port. Speaking to a shop told me I need to replace THE ENTIRE IPAD to replace the cheapest part on the device.
So, I'm looking for trusted repair shops in Berlin, and blogging my experiences so far.
If you have *direct personal experience getting an iPad fixed in Berlin*, I'd appreciate pointers, otherwise this post might be of interest for folks in a similar position:

Enjoying the fruits of my labor now that I finished my 12-legged 'Carpentopod' table project. See

@bloor a friend of mine spent the entirety of our last D&D session only half paying attention as he spent most of the time swearing at his HomeAssistant logs after it screwed up an update and he was trying to fix it before his wife got home (he succeeded... barely)
Right now I have zero confidence in home automation in general. My impression of it is that it's all flaky as hell.
@cavyherd @cstross Well, that's kind of the problem -- they *do* make the actual products their customers buy and like to use. (I know "smaller phones!" except nobody actually buys them) It's just that they can't really make new things that are spectacularly better than two generations older things any more and the new things is as good as but not particularly better than the old things.
Which is fine, at some point you iterate on a thing and get it right. Which they've pretty much done.
@mjgardner I'm sorry, my dude, but the developer is already paying with his time for a public good. Requiring him to pay #Apple for that "pleasure" is just laughable. And there is another, more fundamental issue. Some people, me included, feel that giving money to shitty corps like #Apple is just evil, so we just choose to not pay "the apple tax", because we don't by " shi[tt|n]y macs".
