I set up a new VPS today so that I could self host my favourite open-source, privacy respecting services. Managed to get an invidious instance and searx instance working off of my domain with SSL/https configured! Might announce their presence when I'm comfortable with the security setup.

Found a great launcher for Android, you can have a feed of any RSS stream on the home page. https://posidon.io/launcher also works with other widgets and highly customisable. Beauty of open source meant I could spend the weekend fixing one of the bugs and implementing a feature I wanted!

I'm going to try and move away from Spotify in the next few weeks. My current plan is to use NewPipe and playlists for streaming music on my phone and DVD/youtube-dl (https://github.com/yausername/dvd/) in order to save music. And I can continue to use invidious/yewtu.be along with FreeTube for music on my desktop.
Though I enjoy the ease of use and features with Spotify, along with the ability to support creators, I still feel the level of tracking and coupling with Facebook to be concerning. On top of this the money that creators get is considerably less than buying their music directly. This way I can use the money that I'd have spent on premium to buy albums direct from the creators (most are independent so even labels won't get a cut).
Which new smartphones will be next supported by /e/OS?
Which ones will be upgraded to Android 10?
Which ones will be dropped?

If you use Youtube, or Invidious often on desktop then I'd definitely recommend FreeTube (https://freetubeapp.io/) as an alternative client. Using invidious or a local API as an implementation it doesn't connect to Google APIs, so less risk of corporate data mining!
Spent some time today working on the toast feature for the Vue rewrite (https://github.com/FreeTubeApp/FreeTube-Vue). The current client is pretty great but the new version is shaping up to be better visually and functionally from the ground up.
Thinking of asking my boss for set time to contribute to open source projects. Might take a some convincing.

Anybody got any other benefits or reasons I can bring up? Maybe useful blog posts videos or graphics?
#Facebook just bought #Mapillary.
Move your images to a #FOSS *community run* project instead! How? Simple:
1. Download your images: https://github.com/gitouche-sur-osm/mapillary_takeout
2. Upload to #OpenStreetCam:
OpenStreetCam.org
3. Enjoy giving a giant, fat middle finger to #Zuckerberg. 🌻 🌈 🌻
4. Boost and have a nice day!
Wow what news to start the day with! elementary OS, a popular Linux distro, has chosen to remove Google Analytics and replace it with Plausible! And open their dashboard to the public! Way to go!

And now, it wants to get its hands on our sensitive health data.

You could use a Chromium variant and still have more control -- some of them I consider valuable and attractive products, although I abhor the lousy programming ethics that made Chrome a slug, a resource hog.
Not for me, no Chrome anywhere in this house and network. For many years now.
Hey, Inkscape community! Here's an interesting update from #GSOC contributor Link Mauve about adding GPU acceleration to Inkscape: https://linkmauve.fr/blog/2020/06/12/bringing-gpu-acceleration-to-inkscape-week-2/
I'm working a game right now that's basically just a slideshow with fancy visual effects.
I'm expecting for it to take at least 2 months to finish. I plan it to be a 5-minute game.
That's how much effort game development takes most of the time. I've been in some game jams, and the jump from making an entire game in 48hrs (will be unpolished but still an impressive feat) to creating a full-fledged, bugs-free one is extremely daunting.
