Wow what news to start the day with! elementary OS, a popular Linux distro, has chosen to remove Google Analytics and replace it with Plausible! And open their dashboard to the public! Way to go!

Someone made a "face depixelizer" that turn a low-res pic of a face into a high-res one and of course the first thing they did is try it out with Doomguy and honestly that's pretty impressive but also hilarious

Google already knows too much about us.

And now, it wants to get its hands on our sensitive health data.

We have launched a petition telling the @EU_Commission to block their merger with @Fitbit. Add your voice!

@hansw that being said, you can get free credit with a lot of VPS sites when you first sign up and setting up a VPN is easier than something like an email server in my opinion. I've used this tutorial linustechtips.com/main/topic/1 in the past

@hansw I use my self hosted one, though if you don't use it often it might not be worth setting it up and renting the VPS

@joeo I recently got hired through being discovered on it. Though I haven't logged in since I got the job...

My favorite bit of early-UNIX history trivia:

When AT&T donated the V6 source code to Berkeley, it was classified as industrial waste for tax purposes.

@hansw Blackboard is used by at least a few Universities in the UK

@design_RG @freemo @stux @Perico I was a Brave user up until recently when some questionable code was found in the source. Now I'm running a kitted out Firefox on my desktop and Fennec with a bunch of privacy plugins on Android.

@freemo

You could use a Chromium variant and still have more control -- some of them I consider valuable and attractive products, although I abhor the lousy programming ethics that made Chrome a slug, a resource hog.

Not for me, no Chrome anywhere in this house and network. For many years now.

Hey, Inkscape community! Here's an interesting update from #GSOC contributor Link Mauve about adding GPU acceleration to Inkscape: linkmauve.fr/blog/2020/06/12/b

@visec I quite enjoyed making songs in LMMS, though I often imported sounds that I made in VCVRack as I could experiment more with engineering the instrument.

I'm working a game right now that's basically just a slideshow with fancy visual effects.

I'm expecting for it to take at least 2 months to finish. I plan it to be a 5-minute game.

That's how much effort game development takes most of the time. I've been in some game jams, and the jump from making an entire game in 48hrs (will be unpolished but still an impressive feat) to creating a full-fledged, bugs-free one is extremely daunting.

@design_RG Just went with Lineage OS 16 since its the most stable android 9.0 ROM I could find for the S8. The only thing that is a bit buggy is the Bluetooth.

Finally dedicated a day to de-googling my phone, custom ROM, no gapps, bliss!

Congrats to our friends from the @kde for another polished release. They set the bar very high !
