While I agree that is how it SHOULD work I dont see the vast majority of people viewing the world that way.
Most people, increasingly so lately, view the world as either enemy or ally. Liberals and conservatives will loose their shit over anyone who isnt exactly where they are on the political spectrum. The religious, and activists, and so many groups seems to have this as a dominate pattern.
The point here is to reach across the divide and eliminate the "sides" that people see. Trying to get people to see more like you, to see past the sides is exactly the point of #ReachAcross

The fact that it is so hard to do on social media is exactly why it is so important in my mind.

I'll add one more thing. The best people to break down the divides have to come from within those who affiliate and see themselves as part of a side. Good example, the evangelical christian climatologist Katharine Hayhoe who has done a lot to bring fundy xtians (some of them) to understand climate change is real. So, I will propose this instead:

I reach out to people. I find it works best one on one. Social media is simply not the best medium for what you want to accomplish, imo. That said, I wish you well. I've been known to be wrong from time to time.
