@snow Its not that so much as the fact that people are really sensitive about this stuff. They already see it as spam that we dont make the bots post unlisted. If we make it more advertisement oriented it might get more backlash.

@arteteco @freemo @snow @mngrif @users @QOTO I also have animations in general disabled, as much as possible, they seem more of a distraction than content. The design Snow has made is pretty and colourful, but I can foresee some backlash (as Freemo mentioned, regarding the Arxiv bots).
Some people don't like to see instance features as a new user attraction factor (these people are usually supporters of the 500 chars hard limit, Eugen included).
I like the current qoto announce bot avatar, it's the same image that is displayed at the joinmastodon.org site, isn't it?

As many I don't like animated profile pics and have them turned off.
This is very distracting... but on the other hand it's true that the Qoto account should have Qoto written on it, or at least a Q.
I really like how dark and somber it is atm, though, and in general while qoto lacks style guidelines I feel it is spontaneously going for an elegant look.
I'll see if I can come up with something too
