For those who care attached are the screenshots of the nazi who was banned from QOTO some time back and started a hate campaign by pretending to be LGBTQ ally "calling us out" but just made up lies... he did this over the course of many months and ultimately is the source of the problems that snowballed and led to all this to begin with.

I will do a write up on this soon.

@freemo It is a bit disappointing and concerning that a low effort troll could create such a problem in the fediverse πŸ˜•

@karlo He probably wouldnt have if @Gargron spoke up and defended us rather than caving to the fallout.

@freemo @karlo @Gargron who runs fediblock? is there only one central instance of fediblock? what can be done to prevent such attacks in the future?

@geantonicelli

Luckily we never got on fediblock.. but he did manage to give us a very bad reputation with several servers who took his attacks as legitimate.

@karlo @Gargron

@freemo
BTW. You should (consider) more strictly modder content in a different language than English because there are some users who use QOTO to hate in the Polish language (I've reported some)

@plenartowicz yes we have int he past taken in non-english moderators to help us... though we cant cover all languages of course.

@freemo
I can help with Polish, but for now, you really should an (at)PawelK(at)qoto.org for shocking transphobia

@freemo

Wait... I didn't understand, why such attack exists?

It is something you can solve by just report and block the user. Why banned the whole instance? It sounds like we have one bad guy living in the neighborhood and people nuked the whole area to "keep everyone safe".

If some Twitter user post the similar thing, would anyone uninstall Twitter and never use it again? I think most people will simply report and block that account.

Why people keep asking instance owner to keep their instance clean, which is a thing that the social giant Twitter with billions of billions dollar failed miserably on?

Distributed system 101: block the peer you don't like, keep the peer you like.

@skyblond This guy was creating many alts, posting bad content then creating alts on other servers and reporting content from thos eservers... We would find the posts and suspend the user but not before the damage was done.

@freemo

Then why not use the keyword filter? In my opinion it's just a big flaw, where people nuked a whole instance because of those attackers?

If 80% people in a instance is nazi, then, sure, they should be blocked by the entire fedi (and possibly someone should call the police). But only several alts on a big instance? It makes no sense to me.

Maybe people think differently than me, but, hmmmm......

I don't know Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

@skyblond the sort of people who were dupped by this arent the most rational of people.

@freemo, with your ham radio background, I'll draw the analogy that social media communication patterns, "trigger warnings" included, function like a bunch of superregenerative receivers
[en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regenera] oversensitive to triggers.
The superregenerative receiver most sensitive to false positives and most indiscriminate when quenching anything that triggers it wins.

If Mike Godwin, of all people, isn't immune to getting distracted from the important context by the superregenerative false trigger bugs du jour in Social Media, nobody is.

That <snow at intermute> guy knows something about superregenerative triggers of which your typical "safe space" admin knows nothing.

And if you want to explain to them why their cancellation policy is faulty, Putt's Law of Insubordination takes effect:
"Rejection of management objectives is undesirable when you are wrong and unforgivable when you are right."
