@mngrif Sweet! Congrats!
@sda No the models have nothing to do with determining if human caused climate change is real. They are superflous. The sort of science it takes to confirm human caused climate change is more at the high-school level. You simply look at the well established records that show extremely tight relationship between CO2 and temp, then establish the amount of CO2 currently being contributed by humans. Its actually extremely trivial to verify.
The point is if you're going to claim 99.9% of scientists are all wrong then you need to convince me you're smarter on the subject than 99.9% of scientists or have information they dont. You ave done neither.
In all seriousness arguing that human caused climate change isnt real or significant, or to even doubt it, is a bit like questioning if the world is a sphere or not. Its settled science and looks extremely clueless and unintelligent when someone asserts otherwise.
@freemo My favourite Aleister Crowley story is the time he bought a skeleton to try and grow the flesh back onto it and succeeded (somehow) in coating it in a layer of green slime.
@sda Science doesnt care about consensus, but if your going to stand up and claim you have the superior science that disagrees with virtually all scientists in the field, scientists who hae proven countless other things and turned out to be right... well if you want to make that claim you actually have to demonstrate you have the intellectual capacity to be smarter (or at least more correct) than they are.
I dont watch TV, i find its a waste of my time usually, particularly when it comes to science. I prefer to read original research (scientific journals).
@Liberty4Masses I dont think you are at fault for anything, I'm sorry if that seemed antagonistic, that wasnt my intent.
I'm just saying the way you displayed blind hate for everything communist, and the way you express that, is almost an exact mirror of how the communists speak about libertarians.
I don't dig it, and i think there is far too much nuance for that sort of thinking to be useful. But that is not the same thing as saying I think your at fault for something, that is too harsh of a wording for my tastes.
@Liberty4Masses Well of course you can. you are a libertarian. You can list off countless communists states that most communists would quickly dismiss and claim it wasnt a "true" communism, or wasnt the sort of communism they themselves advocate for.
What I am pointing out is how you reacted mirrors almost exactly how communists would react. They can count off countless capitalist, libertarian or whatever else country as an example of why those ideologies fail but then in the same breath would claim they cant think of a single truely communist country.
Same rhetoric, flipped around.
Also I remind you again your statement "But can't name a single one".. I already said **any** country you name would be valid since every single country is murderous. The only one who cant name a single libertarian country in this conversation is you. I can think of many countries with libertarian policies, it just depends on which policies **you** see as a requirement to determine which one match your personal definition.
@Liberty4Masses I could but then we get into the same problem you see communists argue.. namely "Oh well that wasnt a REAL communism, they didnt do it the right way".. thus bringing us back to where we started.
Thus it is quite intentional for me not to list specific countries, to demonstrate your logic is the same fallable logic we see when the communists are the ones in the cross hairs.
Dont get me wrong I do agree that libertarianism is superior to communism. But the absolutist "all communists are evil" trope is played out and not really needed.
@Liberty4Masses I am not referring to any specific country. Since every country, without exception, is guilty of killing people you can simply choose any country, past or present. Feel free to pick whatever country you feel represents libertarianism best for you and that should work just fine.
@Liberty4Masses Then by that logic you think libertarians are also terrible people since we have examples of libertarian countries that have been involved in wars and other mismanagement internally that has resulted in millions of deaths also (I say this as a libertarian myself)
As I said any philosophy that has ever been employed at a government level has, as a result, been associated with the death of many.
There is no room for such absolutist thinking IMO.
@bigl0af
eugenics is not and never has been a scientific theory. Genetic Theory is a scientific theory, it was settled science and still is. As well it should be.
Some people chose to apply the science in an immoral way (eugenics). You are wrongly mixing up the ideas of morality vs science. Science doesnt tell you what is moral, it doesnt even try to. Thats not its domain.
@Liberty4Masses By that logic anyone who has supported any ideology at all are terrible people. You will be hard pressed to find any political ideology that didnt coincide with the murder of innocence. That is the natural result of any time any group has power.
@sda So? There will always be a few unintelligent people in any group. I would not be surprised if one or two people left in disgust. The numbers are still well below 1%, more than enough to claim consensus.
@sda Except that isnt accurate at all. We have countless peer reviewed journal papers that address the hypothesis that CO2 causes global warming and there is overwhelming consensus in the community that yes, indeed it does. Politicians dont need to prove it, the scientists already did. In fact despite all their natural skepticism they STILL agree with very high levels on consistency, which is rather rare for scientists, further showing how obvious the results from the experiments really were.
@Liberty4Masses Ehhh I dunno. I know some wonderful people who are communists. They are just not particularly bright, but not bad people usually. Unless you mean the political leaders in which case i agree.
Finally getting back into #Haskell
Here is some Haskell code I just wrote to implement a Multibimap
