What's it with people reporting every single one they dont like.. :amaze:

Please, stop with that.

This is not #Twitter. Please use features like mute or block if you don't like people but stop reporting otherwise I'll start banning people who keep reporting for nothing :blobhammer:

I'm trying to keep things running with so many new people and it's such a waste of time to hear whatever you don't like

Otherwise go waste Elon's time, not mine

Researchers report the use of machine learning, first-principles calculations, and an adaptive algorithm to discover and synthesize a rare earth–free magnetic compound, suggesting that a discovery and synthesis approach using machine learning may help design and generate commercially valuable materials. Everyone please be aware that the service we used to use that provided tickers went down and doesnt plan to go back up.. This unfortunately slows down the default theme.

As such I switched the default theme to the no-ticket theme and this works just fine. However im not sure it will help for people already signed up on the server.

To fix the problem please go intto your preferences and change the theme to the no-ticket theme.

I think it's glorious that there's now a Mastodon server operated by people who used to work for Twitter (macaw.social). I could have never imagined it when I started in 2016.

Y’all, if you’re getting frustrated you’re not seeing the content you want to like news or intel you need on Mastodon, you really need to shift your thinking from algorithmic social media. Follower counts don’t matter much here. Likes do not matter to post reach. Without your interaction, you will just see a live FIFO firehose. Some quick fixes:

Hashtag your posts liberally and consistently, and follow key hashtags of interest to you. Hashtags matter a ton here to being seen.

Follow and also alert on accounts you always want to see content from.

Consider using the built in RSS feature for your feeds and for specific hashtags.

Consider switching to the more advanced UI in your preferences, so you can watch multiple filtered and unfiltered feeds. Or a different mobile app.

Use Fedifinder to follow all the accounts you followed on Twitter, and sync up your follow and block lists.

Avail yourself of the multiple public lists of hundreds of journalist accounts on Mastodon.

In which I try to estimate the size of #Science Mastodon –and find it's bigger than I'd have guessed.

If, like me, you've been wondering where to see data on Mastodon growth, there are some links for you. I'd love to hear of any more!

Ok, so there you go. I’ve experienced this happening many times with some of my posts, being that I’m in the GeoPolitics game, if people don’t like what I’m saying they’ll contact the admin of Facebook and/or Twitter etc., and all of a sudden posts won’t go through. It’s typical of social media. One just has to deal with it and move on.

@geantonicelli

Some nice new features in the new Mastodon server software (version 4) that was just released. I especially like the ability to follow hashtags the way you follow people. I'm initially following #Climate, #SupplyChain, and #Sustainability

@geantonicelli I tried 2 people from that domain and both would not post. I tried a few other domains, and fine. I will have to keep playing with this more. It's become interesting ha

it seems that the ban is limited to climatejustice.social though I haven't checked every mastodon instance

CSVconf is happening again. This time in Buenos Aires - April 19-20, 2023. It’s a great community conference focused on elegant approaches to hacking/interoperability…and how simple data projects can solve societal problems. Please consider submitting a proposal. To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.

Precedents like the German government running a Mastodon server are important beyond the obvious reasons. They reinforce the urgency of serious public funding for open code.

If we treated open code as part of the essential infrastructure of the 21st century and funded it at billions of USD/EUR as opposed to tiny grants here and there, the "fediverse" model of interconnected, self-governing communities would become the norm, not the exception.
