Looking for a sabbatical placement in complex systems/network science that would take an epidemiologist with some out of the box ideas. Preferably not a big metropolis, ideally a quieter place where I can find good schools for three kids. Exception for big cities would be London. Any ideas please reply.

New cohorts have become less tolerant of racist speech, especially among college graduates & liberals. Tolerance of offensive speech about identities is not higher among the educated anymore & tolerance effects are also attenuated for non-identity topics

I've been lurking a few days, but time for a quick #Introduction.

I'm an associate professor at University of Alberta, with research interests in #catchment and #wetland science - especially studying impacts of #climate change on the carbon and #greenhouse gas balance of northern #peatlands, and on downstream water quality.

I am currently looking for PhD or postdocs with interest in peatland GHG fluxes.

A recent story on some of the work in my group:

More #wetland representation in video games with the new #GodofWarRagnarok  - that’s a swamp if I ever did see one!

Save wetlands to save ourselves. #Wetlands have been cast as useless wastelands, but they store more #carbon than forests. In a time of accelerating #ClimateChange experts say we need to take a closer look at wetlands: for their survival, and our own.

Like many others, I used to have specific imagery when someone would mention a swamp. A few years back, one of my best friends and hiking partner who grew up in Southern GA introduced me to the beauty of swamps and the unique ecosystems and wildlife they support and help to nourish. Since then, my love and appreciation for wetlands have grown exponentially.

People of should be up in arms about this massive subsidy to already lucrative residential developments and extremely wealthy . The sell-off is such obvious that this developer fee hand out is not getting much attention, but Guelph and Hamilton both already projected big property tax hikes in response to

My U Waterloo colleagues Michael Drescher and Luna Khirfan wrote a great article on ‘s . This bill - the More Homes Built Faster Act - is a real piece of Orwellian doublespeak. It will not help increase and will lead to higher property taxes as it prevents municipalities from charging developers the fees that recoup costs of development! theconversation.com/ontarios-b

I am gathering a list of people who want to be involved in the discussion around the formation of a "United Federation of Instances" which is an attempt to combat the fracturing of the fediverse and the general spreading of misinformation WRT moderation decisions.

If anyone is interested in being a part of it let me know in the replies. I will add you to the list, share the draft proposal, and we can start discussions. I have several people already interested.

Overwhelming evidence of outdoor transmission of Omicron by a man jogging through a park without a mask. Using surveillance videos, Chinese CDC investigators identified 256 people who passed within a meter of Patient zero as he jogged through the park without a mask. 13 (5%) were infected. He infected another 20 out of 20,496 park visitors beyond 1 meter. Nothing beats a surveillance state for contact tracing. covid.dropcite.com/articles/0b
