It's simply *wrong* to think that mitigating #ClimateChange takes sacrifice. Mitigating climate change is 100% a benefit for humans AND our ways of living (but you have to think outside of the *box* to perceive it)
Reducing over-consumption means getting rid of polluting products & activities, unhealthy diets & air polluting vehicles.
For, l wouldn't call using eBikes, electric buses & trains too much of a sacrifice
Are relatively rich folk spoilt? (🤬 if they can't have their friggin 🚘 )
I’m at that #career stage for an #ecologist where #businesscasual #conference attire means #DovetailWorkwear. Best field 👖 pants on earth.

Does your city really want to attract and keep families living in your downtown and urban places? REALLY?
Remember, there are 3 KEYS, in THIS ORDER:
1) ensure family-sized housing (2-3+ bedrooms);
2) build local daycare, schools & supports;
3) design the #publicrealm for kids.
Day two of term. I received >150 #email #today . Please make it stop 🛑.

Ok, ok… I recycle, I compost, I bring my own bag to the grocery store. But hear me out, what if maybe, just maybe, WE GET THE G-20 TO REDIRECT THE $1.3 TRILLION IN ANNUAL FOSSIL FUEL SUBSIDIES TOWARDS SOLAR, WIND, AND GEOTHERMAL?!?
I feel like I’m taking crazy pills! (Gift link, no paywall)

Great day #today. I had a big grant get funded letting me work with a fantastic new #professor from #TrentUniversity, Autumn Watkinson, on #meadow #restoration. I got nice reviews back on a paper lead-authored by my former PhD student Jody Daniel. I taught my first lecture this fall and the whole #class promised to do their assigned #readings before each #lecture. #academicchatter @academicchatter
Hey tweeps!
Are you aware of a evidence that reforms in scientific integrity, responsible scholarship, or #OpenScience have had measurable impact on the quality of science (broadly defined)?
@annaveer & I are looking information for a workshop we're putting together.
Thanks 🖤!

#today I’ll start teaching 200 #undergrads introductory #ecology and #evolution. Haven’t taught this course in person since… 2017! Wow! This is also the last time I’ll be #teaching it. Due to program changes, the class is being replaced with a second year lab course. Which I’m also designing right now. I’ll be teaching that for the first time NEXT #fall But did that stop me from completing revamping this first year class? Of course not! I’m incurable. Buckle up folks, it’s going to be bumpy
To help birds and insects, cultivate native gardens 🌱
Entomologist Doug Tallamy has this advice for the readers of his book Nature’s Best Hope, geared toward kids:
"Feel empowered. Feel like there are things they can do where they live. If they live in the middle of a city with no land at all, they can get into container gardening. They can become activists. They can volunteer at preserves that are in their city."

Apparently authenticity isn’t about being blunt, wildly expressing whatever is on your mind. It requires a sense of security—knowing that the person or people who will hear from you are generally safe. You don’t feel defensive. You aren’t operating on autopilot. You’re connected and taking ownership of your personal experiences

I’m counting this as my first contribution to #Mosstodon.

So it looks like MPP Caroline Mulroney, #Ontario's failed attorney general & now failed Transportation Minister has become President of the Treasury Board (aka keeper of the purse strings)
Despite the #DougFord govt's #greenbeltscandal, she's managed to snag a KC patronage & sidestep her problematic transport file. Lucky, or what?!
MPP Sarkiria takes over transport & began his tenure by assuring disgraced MPP Clark that "we will finish the important work you started."
