#physics #earthquake **Turkey strong ground motion** I'm having a tough time figuring this out, but this is PGV in the basin that dropped. A pulse of 120 cm/s is about as strong as you can get and no structure can stand against it.
#earthquake **Buffalo earthquake** Very tiny. It reflects a major fault under Hamilton. It is activated by a seep of lake water.
#physics #earthquake **Aftershocks** These aftershocks define the fault zone. There was only one big quake, and the second was an M6. You need more strong ground motion sensors to define the mechanics.
#physics #earthquake **The two nearly identical earthquakes looks to have a mechanism of first, one side dropping, and then the other.
#earthquake **Turkey Tectonics** At the epicentre, we have extension as the Arabian plate pushes in.
#earthquake **Extension earthquake in Turkey** You can see very complex tectonics here. This was a shallow extension (basin) earthquake that would have sent out a wide swathe of lower frequency ground motion.
**NERDOCHAT** When I win the lottery I'll put up this instance. Might be a while, since I don't buy lottery tickets.
**Welcome to Nerdochat** all things nerd all the time. Discussion groups:
The lifecycle of the nerd
The horror of prom
Turning 40
In the spirit of being 'clean', we will accept jeers from the influencers like "The world is getting warmer, nerds!' Just as in high school, we'll ignore them and retreat to the Library Club. Just like that club, we'll accept nerdo-girls, but we won't know what to do with them.... or each other.
#physics #weather **Gulf Stream has flipped to the north** Too long for here.

Blah, now I have to be responsible and not buy the Chinese toys I had lined up for the recession. :(
Descended from Unix freaks, I evolved to Linux. Some people might consider me old at 60+, but I'm suing the world to get my age down to 30.
I have a blog https://ontario-geofish.blogspot.com/
and it is read by 8 people. My formal education is in an extinct branch of science called geophysics. Since there was no money in it, I went to engineering. I've done tunnels, radwaste thingies, etc.
