#AI tools aren't predatory. The people making them aren't specifically out to end #artists' jobs. The people using tools to generate goofy AI profile photos for a social media post were never going to pay an artist for a one-off social media post of the process in the first place.

Friendly reminder to those that develop in chrome. Test your stuff in Firefox. Sincerely Firefox users :p

ATTENTION EVERYONE WRINGING THEIR HANDS OVER β€œ#MASTODON ADMINS CAN READ MY DIRECT MESSAGES”: #SysAdmins have *always* been able to read your #email and DMs unless encrypted, including at the big #SocialNetworks and Internet providers. We used to have t-shirts that said, β€œI READ YOUR EMAIL.”

It’s just hitting now because you got used to places where the admins were kept away in their cubicles and data centers instead of greeting you at the front door.

You'll never see Romulans posting on mastodon because they are enemies of the federation

So I decided to post the article I wrote (linked below) on twitter and am going to dump some money into promoting it there. Gotta get some attention to this. Go boost over on twitter if you'd like.

Harsh Truth - If you are "woke" you've been warned, remember that.

Not all opinions carry equal weight. Uninformed opinions should be dismissed without hesitation. Pretending an opinion has value just so the person expressing it doesn't feel bad is dangerous to them and society.

As a general rule, when you criticize the terminology used by someone, it is your responsibility to provide better terminology. Examples:
"[system] is not a platform, it is a ___".
"[word] is not a slur, it is a ___"
It's fine to argue that a word is being used too broadly, but you can't simply insist that people abandon having any word for the concept they are talking about.

Doing a bit of an experiment. Boost if you agree!

When I visited a national event shortly before the Pandemic, I was enlightened by how many different beliefs people held, the disparate nature of those and the crossovers.

-awareness and much more.
No one person seemed to hold exactly the same views as another.
The lack of a centrally-organised religion meant people made their own minds up and weren't told what to think.
The general opinion seemed to me to do no harm to the planet and to others. Theoretically the latter is a tenet of the major Abrahamic religions, though many followers of them could do with remembering that.
Opposite the queue to get in was a man ranting about how we were all going to hell .. as though we all believed in a hell. He was intent on doing us harm .. upsetting us; yet the attendees did nothing to warrant this. He didn't understand us and, try as a few did, wasn't interested in discussing this or finding out.
I myself am an atheist, but care about the planet. I also love tarot and other means of supposed divination, though more as a way of telling a story or entertaining or helping others, rather than any power.
I am open to all things .. with evidence.

To this extent I'm really interested to know how the age breakdown of people on the #Fediverse. On one hand it would seem to make sense to me that most people here remember the "old internet" before the centralization and they're here to rekindle that flame of independence. On the other hand the youths are generally pretty up on this whole technology thing. I grew up on the internet and since then smartphones have become even more ubiquitous.
