@mangeurdenuage Looks pretty good. And welcoming. I wouldn't put the bottles at the side of table, though.

> While a student at MIT Joy discovered her facial scanning software couldn’t recognize her Black face.
And she saw that as a problem? I'd be ecstatic if no face scanners could recognise me.
@coolboymew Soon...
I think one thing that bothers me a lot with anything tech related is that while, yes, a lot of things can definitely have improved UX that is more user friendly, a lot of other things already have great UX that has been polished for years but gets a lot of undeserved criticism simply for being different from the status quo and/or requiring even the smallest amount of learning or effort
and I honestly entirely blame corporations that over the last 20 years have done everything to create walled gardens with the promise of "we do everything for you, if you have to think while using a computer that means it's bad"
and it's terrifying how well that worked on so so so many people
sometimes things just require you to sit down for half an hour, read something, learn something, try something you're not used to. that's normal. that is simply how anything even remotely advanced has worked for the thousands of years. you don't pick up an electric drill and throw a tantrum because it doesn't work exactly like a screwdriver. computers are a tool that let you do things, and just like any other tool, may require putting at least the smallest amount of effort into learning something
it's honestly frustrating how normalized "nuh uh i got adopted by [corporation's walled garden] and this is where i live for the rest of my life. anything even slightly different is just bad. why would I ever consider anything else, that's effort and effort is bad" has become
I understand that habits can be very strong, and I get it, adjusting to new things takes time, but it's not the end of the world. "more complex" doesn't necessarily mean "worse", it just means you would need to learn and adjust. teaching math at school doesn't stop at pre-algebra, it goes all the way to trigonometry and calculus because there's a good reason for it to be more complicated than the basics. learn something new, it's good for you.
To be honest, I always thought (or should I say ‘hoped’?) "Bob" would be on the side of the freakout.
There seems to be quite a lot of magical thinking in the way some people read stuff, by which I mean that they will always interpret it in a way that suits their biases. I wonder if I'm guilty of that, too.
This is related (but not the same, I believe) as what happens when we argue with someone and we try to extract the parts of their argument that may give force to our own response to it. If you think about it, this selective ‘argumenteering’ is ultimately what causes the effect described by Godwin's Law.
@StefanThinks Either you tried to buy women's clothes (not judging) or elegant, one-time ones (i.e., suits for weddings, royal receptions, _Neujahrkonzerten_, etc.).
This kind of clothes don't have pockets because if you were to carry anything in them, they would lose their shape and that is considered _not_ elegant. Also, in certain social situations you're not supposed to walk around with your hands in your pockets.
@lydiaconwell It's sad to see that Caitlin has such a misguided and ignorant opinion about Fedi. She was one of the few people from Twitter I was hoping to follow here.
But it's not surprising, given that she didn't even take the time to hang around here, and followed the lazy, cross-posting route.
There are a lot of shitlibs here, though. That part is true. (BTW, I assumed the NFT comment was made in jest, as in, “I know there are things I can do to make my experience better there, but I'm not tech-savvy and I'm not willing to learn because fuck you. You're not worthy of me.”)
@veer66 It is explained in the next verse: “Te regalo mis piernas./Recuesta tu cabeza en ellas.” [I give you my legs. Lay your head in them.]
There's little doubt but the World would be a better place without #NATO ....
RT @BTnewsroom: Former NATO chief Rasmussen calls for Ukraine to join NATO, to "fix the Russia problem" and "by that, we will free up resources to address the real long-term global challenge: China."
Q: "How do you think Russia is going to react?"
A: "I don't care."

@mangeurdenuage Wow. It's like God was out to get them.
@Danielsand
> Hopefully Reddit does the right thing and reversed their decision on the API and mod tools.
I'm afraid you don't get it. The goal is not to have them reverse their decisions. The goal is for Reddit to burn to the ground.
The things people say of a man do not alter a man. He is what he is. Public opinion is of no value whatsoever.

Or... you can acknowledge the fact that sysadmins exist and that they study and get paid for installing and maintaing systems, and you can hire one to do exactly that instead of putting yourself in the hands of some unknown person or entity whose ultimate goal is to turn you into a consumer of the program that is rightfully yours and set their own terms for its maintenance.
@markusl Absolutely agree. Given the resources, technical videos should always come with an accompanying blog post.
@tilvids Sorry for the Marxist terminology, but I've always been of the opinion that creators should seize the means of production by joining together on an instance where they can share costs and resources.
I'm talking about hiring someone to create a plugin that allows them to add ads to videos and at least one professional editor.
IMHO, TILvids is a very good starting point, but more could, and should, be done to make #PeerTube a sustainable platform for creators and by creators.
I think most instances lack a sense of purpose, and that's a shame.
@markusl I wouldn't say text is _always_ better, but, IMHO, technical information videos require a level of editing sophistication to make them engaging that is not always available to hobbyists.
I don't always consume gaming videos, but I watch them sometimes thanks to my nephew. What sticks with me is that most streamers of at least medium size do interact with their audience (even when they become so big that they couldn't possibly read the walls of text, they still try to engage them in the conversation), which is why live streaming seems to me to be naturally suited for gaming videos.
There's also the question of what games are good for streaming and which ones are not. I remember being very entertained by @ChrisWere's TuxKart videos, but not so much by the latest ones.
Finally, about talking heads videos, I believe those need both (at least some degree of) script writing and editing. Unless you're innately funny and/or entertaining, it is very hard to keep someone's attention for more than, say, five minutes just by talking, even if it's a topic the other person is interested in. Most people, including myself as you can see, tend to rumble and that needs to be cut.
Finally, I'm Gen X and I have no education whatsoever on this stuff, so take what I said with a grain of salt.
I am, without a doubt, the most interesting person I know.
