Nice talk today at our colloquium by @OceanAndClimate on a new marine ¹⁴C compilation over the last deglaciation that reinforces evidence for slower ocean overturning and older ventilation timescales during the last glacial maximum.

A very interesting study with important paleoceanographic implications out by Jess Conroy and colleagues on how surface-ocean δ¹⁸O in the Galápagos is driven by the velocity of Equatorial Undercurrent waters: agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.co

V nice work w implications for reconstructions by Thejna Tharammal, G. Bala, & Jesse Nusbaumer showing using an isotope-enabled climate simulation, that NE monsoon rains over India can be associated with more negative δ¹⁸O signatures than southwest (summer) monsoon in spite of being associated with *lesser* rainfall amounts. Interesting to note that the match (or lack thereof) with observations suggests that we still have some ways to go to understand the isotopic controls on this system (seasonality/events?):

Interesting new out by Leupold and colleagues exploring Indian Ocean warmth during the Mid‐Holocene using coral records from Kenya: nature.com/articles/s41598-023

Late to the game, but better late than never - here's a list of my top 20 (mostly ) albums from 2021 (yes, yes... not 2022 - that one is coming soon!): paleowave.net/paleowave/2023/1

Very interesting set of talks at of the Common Era session this morning. Take-home messages:
- J. Conroy looks at lake sediments in Line Islands spanning last millennium & finds consistent ENSO response acc. to Line Island corals.
- J. Cole shows Galapagos coral records of last millennium - finds that EP () was 39% (!!) more subdued across last millennium than in 20th century.
- G. Falster finds that there *is* a strong volcanic imprint in the Walker Circulation.
- N. Goodkin focuses on reconstructing tripole SST signals using Atlantic .

Fun Day 2 yesterday with a variety of & talks; particularly enjoyed this session:
