I've wrote a small script to open/close registrations on #Mastodon servers based on user count so that smaller servers can better cope with the current load.

You'll need to make some changes to the script (editing the limits) and most likely also want to use https://codeberg.org/Windfluechter/cleanup-mastodon-users.sh to automatically remove inactive accounts on your site to reduce the user count again

Ever heard the term "galactic archaeology"? It refers to astronomers using stars as fossils to understand the history of the Milky Way and some nearby galaxies.

My colleague Rebecca Forsberg, one our science communication interns at ESO, is working on this topic for her PhD, and she just wrote this lovely piece about how ESO's Very Large Telescope and ESA's Gaia mission joined forces to unveil the secrets of our home galaxy:

I am PostDoctoral researcher, working in the field of the Large-Scale-Structure of the Universe. I am a member of the @esa #Euclid space mission, aminly active in the Galaxy Clustering Science Working Group.

I am also interested in high-performance computing, with an emphasis on modern languages such as #julialang and differentiable programming.

On a personal side, I live in Bergamo with my partner and I am an amateur StandUp comedian.
