@RabBrucesSpider1 I had no idea this was an issue and I'm ashamed I didn't. Saw your post in a boost and I guess the extra time to discribe a picture is insignificant compared to the difficulties it can cause.
Glad I've seen this!

I do like it here on Mastodon, but the huge influx of people from Twitter means there are far fewer image descriptions than from even a couple of weeks ago. I’d love to tell every one of them about this, but quite frankly there are so many I don’t have the patience. I’d dearly love it if apps could block posts unless an image description was added to every photo, but I suppose that’s too much to hope for. I’m feeling really excluded from so many conversations. It’s getting as bad as Twitter.

Again, a quick and dirty analysis, but if I have no bugs then the 1% largest #Mastodon instances accounts for 84% of all users.

The top 5% accounts for 97% of all users.

We can say that the system is effectively centralizing around a few instances, and this might be a problem for the overall stability and sustainability.

Last year I had the chance of getting the but it didn't went well. I needed much more time to study.
Since the exam was already payed for I went anyway.
The exam was quite long and not easy at all so, as I expected, I failed, but the to get to this point was not lost on me. What I've learned as been helping me a lot on my job and I finally understand stuff I was doing without knowing why so, if you ever get a chance like this and still fail, you really didn't failed at all if you have more knowledge now then you had before 🙂

Hi it's my first post on Astrodon. I'm a 1st year #phd student in Laboratory of #Astrophysics in Marseille on Jovian #radio emissions with the #Juno spacecraft #plasma.
So I was a quiet user in Twitter and mostly looked #cats gifs, #french news, #comics or #anime stuff but I might post some science related stuff there this time (or maybe I'll change server to just boost some cat #memes)

Hello! Now that I've been lurking for a few days it's probably about time for an #introduction .

Looking forward to meeting new people and finding old friends here. I try to keep a good work-life balance. Into most types of fiber arts (knitting, crochet, cross-stitch) and one of these days I will learn Python and to play the bass. 🎸

This year I took the leap into #AppSec from a more general #infosec background. I'm #AlwaysLearning what I can. :blobaww:

My posts will be a mix of a lot of things, and so far I'm managing a couple of different accounts on different servers. Maybe one day I'll pick one!

@Lizzratt @paul@dasmirnov.net I see your point and don't disagree per se. when I say it's not that easy to register, what I meant is that it took some investigation to understand how works and to select a server I would be interested to join. These several steps will be to much for someone just curious about it. But this is just my opinion.
To join any other more known social network you don't have to worry about this.
Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the concept of Mastodon and the !

@paul@dasmirnov.net I don't believe will end nor there will be a massive migration.
I might be mistaken, but most people don't come to running away from there, they come here curious to know what's all the fuss is about the .
Most of the curious will probably give up when they try to register as it's not that simple process 😅
And apart from this, I believe a big percentage of people on don't even care about what is going on in the company.

@atomicpoet it will of course depend on the trust you have on the plataform/instance and if it's worth for you. I also think that even if only part of the users pay it can probably be a sustainable platform.
I for one rarely interacted on Twitter and that is not the case here, so I value much more this platform then the "other".

@freemo I'm not really into dramas but isolate thousands of people from an instance should not be taken lightly. I know we can create a user somewhere else, but that doesn't seem to be the point.
I guess these are growing pains... But I'm too new to this to opinate much more 😅

I've got to say it's not for kids. I'm liking it a lot!
