@baldengineer A couple weeks ago I had to connect a laser that could only be controlled using websocket, was quite an adventure in a university network and with no real prior networking experience
so because Im fairly new on this instance I thought I`ll finally write an #introduction toot.
I am Florian, a german #physics master #student working in the field of #quantum #optics. i did some programming in the past as a hobby, now mostly just #python for studying.
Some other interests are:
#gaming
#gamedev
#godot
#fitness
#opensource
#linux
#science
#math
#quantuminformation
#quantumcomputing
It really is so much easier to get interaction and (real) followers as a small account on mastodon than on the #birdapp
@chriswolfvision which I think is kind of relevant because there are certain network effects with programming languages with available libraries and device support for lab equipment
@chriswolfvision Not really social network related but most physicists are moving away from closed/corporate software like matlab, origin, lab view towards python or julia
Grant Sanderson has released another excellent video, this time on the subject of [convolution](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuXjwB4LzSA).
I am regularly impressed with the lucidity of his explanations. If you are interested in mathematics at all, you are probably already aware of his videos, but it doesn't hurt to highlight his work again and again.
Another reason why having open and free software is really important

Cosmic ray experiment discovers the existence of the Sun at high significance (6.2σ)! Existence of the Moon is probable (4.2σ), but more data is needed

@hasmis I think their also doing too much customization at their fault, it's very easy to install community addons but many of them just don't work at all
The biggest bug I have is that the taskbar just freezes sometimes, and its the only area where I use addons
Also weirdly windows seems way buggier when Linux is installed alongside which is... confusing? Like they are installed on different physical drives but windows still seems clearly worse than before?
I've been using #linux again for the past month and I realized I really like KDE plasma
It's the only Desktop that is almost fully configurable without terminal and has probably the most featureful Desktop of any OS
It does seem a little buggier sometimes though
@j_bertolotti Bad printer drivers are more of an incentive problem than a technical problem, good drivers are not insanely hard and already exist

Fermi–Pasta–Ulam–Tsingou recurrence: in a linear system energy in a mode stays in that mode. Nonlinearities allow energy to move from mode to mode, but some nonlinear systems do not thermalize, and all the energy goes back to the original mode after a while.
