@monotrox99 Yeah, I just love looked at the public timeline of that instance and they seem to love that word. One upside of Mastodon vs. the bird site, I can now mute that entire instance on my account and in doing so take out a lot of trash at once.

@TheRealTraceyDelaney I think what also plays into this is that mental illnesses in men are very underreported.
Many men refuse to go to therapy out of "principle" (meaning some weird arcane idea of being manly) or some even full on deny mental illness in themselves or others.

Moderation complication, nazis
I hesitate to boost this, because people only reading the headline might misread it as "someone is accusing Eugen of *being* a Nazi, which is either true or a melodramatic Godwinization" or "Mastodon is full of Nazis".
TLDR:
1. Our instance, qoto.org, came under attack by an actual, swastika-waving Nazi. Mastodon is by no means full of such bad actors, but they do exist. Freemo provides evidence and history of the attack.
2. This bad actor created enough disinformation noise that Eugen chose to delist qoto from joinmastodon to protect the reputation of Mastodon. This was a win for the baddies.
3. Debates over proper moderation and federation policies are complicated and can grow heated.

@atoponce quantum sensing is also kind of ironic because people realized that qubits are so incredibly sensitive to environment conditions that that alone can be used for better measurements.
At the same time its the reason QC is insanely difficult
@atoponce Theres been a lot of promising applications in recent years in quantum sensing and imaging, which are closer to fields that physicists are already good at.
And there may be some very niche special purpose stuff possible in the next 2 decades.
But I agree, general QC is probably still very very far off.

@monotrox99 Agreed. I suspect qoto is running a modded fork of mastodon v3.2.1. So our hashtag subscription feature may have been implemented independently from the one that was introduced in v4 on other instances.
Maybe "following hashtags from search results" would be worth a feature request with our admin @freemo ? :)

So I’m a science nerd. But now I’m not part of a university I've been completely cut off from the scientific community. Journals are behind paywalls and conferences are way too expensive for me to attend! Why is it so difficult to do independent science?

But I really think there should be an option to follow hashtag from search, because that seemed like the most obvious place for me.
I cant figure how how to follow hashtags, but apparently thats possible, help?
