Mastodon has changed how I think. Twitter now seems like a server that doesn't want to federate with anyone else, and that everyone else has blacklisted. I'm in awe of how much sense that makes.

@CivicDutyPeg@mastodon.coffee On your home feed, should have a "Lists" thing on the right of the feed to choose. Type in a name near the top and click the Plus next to create the list. Go to the profiles you'd like to be on the list, click the 3 dots to the right of the notification/alert bell and choose "Add or Remove from lists"

@Goodtrouble I just typed them in. Here's a list of some of the perks that the qoto.org instance has that other Mastodon instances might not. qoto.org/about/more

@CivicDutyPeg@mastodon.coffee You can still make Lists, works very similar to Twitter's.

@gossithedog And if you don't own Apple products, Tusky is a good 3rd party client on Android for Mastodon.

Mastodon may never draw in as many daily users as Twitter has, but it has already exceeded Truth Social.

I am very pleased to see @georgetakei is having a good time here. After the nonsense that went down with wil wheaton its really nice to see him welcomed.

His eyes uncovered!🖖🏻

Apparently Reddit likes me 😊
(Not on Reddit myself)

Birdsite speculation

For shits & giggles I did a whois search on Twitter. Who wants to bet that the employees who were responsible for upkeep on their registration were either fired or they quit?

Tick tock, Space Karen.

@ColleenDoran Engagement is higher because an algorithm isn't deciding who sees you. Everything comes chronologically, the user chooses the curation: your local instance, federated, or your follows. No preferential treatment means little pressure to artificially inflate your account numbers to trick the algorithm.

If you want to see Mastodon at its best, strongly recommend these options:

:android: Android - Use apps Tusky or Fedilab

:apple_inc: iPhone/iPad - Use apps Metatext or Toot!

💻 Computers - Log in through your server's website

Mastodon was designed for websites and third party apps. These are *still* the best ways to use Mastodon!

(Official app exists because new people were only looking for an official app in app stores, and giving up when they didn't find one. You don't need to use it!)

It also works with lists.

This 3rd party tool will help scan your birdsite follows/followers who have posted their Mastodon deets in their username or bio - generate a CSV file that you can download (at the bottom after a scan) - and you can use the import tool in Mastodon "Account Settings" (Import and export, Import, make sure it says "Merge") for easy adding. Please note that it might take a little bit of time to process if you have many profiles to import.

@SpockResists Greetings and felicitations to the logical substitute for the bird site, Mr. Spock.

One of the dumbest things a smart person can do is to start thinking they’re smarter than everyone else.

@Goodtrouble We match on quite a few hashtags here. I've sent a follow request.

@debdiscourse I really don't get the "too complicated" complaint about Mastodon. If you have an E-mail address, it's essentially the same concept but with more social network connectivity to it.

The main big difference is that because it's Federated, the searches aren't nearly as good because there's no central index to it all. Minor inconvenience, IMHO.

Today is #LGBTQSTEMDay ! A day to celebrate all the LGBTQ+ people who work in or study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I’m proud to be a part of a worldwide community of amazing people doing amazing things!

Because of all the new users today (again):

Don't forget to enable Two-Factor Authentication in Mastodon in your settings.
