Replication crisis:
“Don't get me wrong, I think there are real reasons to be concerned....But I'm not sure calling it a crisis is particularly helpful because I think that can just be a bit distracting.”

@galeot Ricordo che c'è un modo per far girare dei software senza accesso ad internet, ma non sono sicuro che si possa impostare a livello di sistema.
D'altronde interfacce carine per firewall linux non se ne sono mai viste...
@galeot I've looked through the wiki already and didn't find anything really useful.
I'll try disabling IPv6 tomorrow to see if that does something.
I'm tired of having to switch between NetworkManager and networkd and I don't want to use networkd all the time as it has no nice GUI.
@torrid Such an amazing innovation, the vacuum flask is incredible!
I want to become left handed just to be able to use these.
Please, take all my grant money.
Hello there,
I'm using an ethernet connection that gives access based on the MAC address of clients.
The connection works, but using NetworkManager it fails at the DHCP lease renewal step after some time and I get stuck with an old IP address that I cannot use, I tried both the integrated dchp client and dhclient.
Using systemd-networkd works fine and the renewal goes well.
Do you know what could be the problem? What dhcp client does systemd use?
@governa Just workarounds for an essential problem.
These work only as long as a package for the software you wish to use exists, which it very often doesn't.
Add to that that nobody likes any of those systems and users of one are likely to start a fight with the users of the others.
@mikekav66 Definitely you're going to tell your students that the human mouth is much more reliable at mouth pipetting than a robot mouth.
@governa Linux -> I can't run software because you're stupid and updated a library.
@Vyen Are you working on some recipe from the 20th century?
@fribbledom Corporate DHCP lease renewal is enough to get my internet connection unusable for weeks, no need to even send packets.
@jagg2 That must definitely be annoying!
@Pat Yes, that happens to me very often when I'm quickly moving through the file system.
Today I had an epiphany and added this line to the bashrc of the server on which I work.
I just hope my boss never makes my same mistake, or I'll owe him a beer I guess...
This is great: the Mastodon API supports reading/writing of your read position via the `markers` API. If clients implemented this (it doesn’t look any of them do) we could have cross-client timeline position syncing!
I’m working on a #Chemisty #art project. What is your favorite software for displaying beautiful #organic #molecules - 3D and line? Cheap or free is even better. Thanks!! #sciencemastodon #chemtoots #ChemistryMastodon #ChemistryTwitter
@jaci_otero 2D really depends a lot on the style you're searching for; there's plenty of software for that!
3D I see people around swearing about pyMol being the best and most customizable.
I myself have always preferred VMD for visualizing and producing images of small molecules.
@Pat What do you mean by spaced out?
@UTM Very nice video and explanation, after all destroying forests and building cities is creating new biodiversity.
I mean, we couldn't destroy the world if we tried; it would be absurd to succeed without trying.
At worst we will extinguish ourselves.
Italian, MSc in chemistry specialized in cheminformatics and QSAR.
I'm interested in cooking and building stuff.
I love traveling, I lived in India, China, Slovenia, Poland and Spain.
Currently working in Spain in the field of genomics; and doing a PhD in Drug Development using Quantum Mechanics and Artificial Intelligence.
Don't take what I say as an insult, I have no bad intentions and I'm open to talk about it.
Don't star my toots, I find that often useless: if you liked it send a reply.
Consider boosting the toots, it's the only real way in which stuff is propagated through mastodon.
