@rastinza I've heard that in some cases hackspaces also have sewing machines, and people who can help you learn how to use them.

Over time I've realized academia is in some ways the most irrational industry of all
- focus on arbitrary metrics like journal IF, H-index (not even getting into frequentist problems)
- awards and self-promotion
- obsessed over author order
- zero-sum thinking leading to hyper-competitive exclusion of potential collaborators, weaponization of anonymous reviews
- false meritocracy consistently undervalues contributions of technical staff
- training so many grad students for so few academic jobs

For some time I've been buying cheap shirts from the market and tailoring them to fit me.
It's something I advise everyone to learn how to do.

- A sewing machine is cheap: you can find one for less than 100€
- Learning how to tailor a shirt so that it fits you doesn't take more than a couple hours
- You can save a LOT of money: I buy my shirts for 1-3€ (made out of good material of course, I discard the ones which aren't durable)
- The tailored shirt will fit you much better than the ones from the shops

A cheap shirt, made out of very cheap material, can be found for something like 15€ in a shop. If you want your clothes to be durable you'll have to spend much more than that.

You can clearly see that you can get even with your investment in the sewing machine after buying just a few clothes, all the rest is earned money.

Oh, and if you're one of those who feel guilty as they drive around all the time and consume too much over all, you could trick your conscience into believing that tailoring your own clothes will drastically reduce your pollution footprint and thus that you're saving the world, unlike all those other idiots who don't.

As member of Climate Feedback, a group of fact checking climate scientists, I had a chat with the ZAPPA project, who are building a Fediverse fact checking system.

Some interesting findings from user research for the Zappa project (so far!) bonfirenetworks.org/posts/zapp

Working with Climate Feedback is much more effective than writing a post as they help spreading it. But still the lies are spread much more than the debunking. While the flags are up when most people already read the lie.

Preliminary sketch for a poster

A wonderful painting, I should try copying it to see how it turns out, I don't really want to buy a print...

Someone has been in Cartagena, Spain?
I've never been there, spent a night sleeping in the streets of Murcia and I hated that city.

I'll go there to visit a friend of mine and maybe I'll move there, I've been told I can get a room for 150€

Alright, I installed the application fedilab and everything seems to work correctly with this one.
I guess I can now fully transfer my old account here

Shakshouka for lunch. I decided the cumin in my last version was overpowering, so I omitted it here and went with my Italian roots. Onion, bell pepper, diced ham, egg, tomato sauce, mozzarella, brie!, salt, pepper, and basil.

Hmm.. empires have to fall before they are replaced right?

I do not think companies that have "replace Facebook", or something similar, as their mission statement are going to succeed. You have to find what makes your group great.

- awesome unique project fluxml.ai/Zygote.jl/

Rust:

- awesome unique (for now) project github.com/egraphs-good/egg

Neat. Tropical algebra can explain why deep learning systems become more expressive with more layers.
