I made the mistake of only assigning 5 threads to work on background processes (posting, favoriting, following, etc) which was making the site be extremely slow. I increased it to 200 threads.
There were 400,000 jobs in the queue a few hours ago and they finally just finished. So if you're seeing notifications from hours ago, that's why. Hopefully this new setting will be able to keep up tomorrow.
